  1. Phone call claiming to be Windows Maintenance, is this a scam?

In 2012 there was a discussion topic re calls from Microsoft Windows Computer Maintenance Department. These calls have re-appeared lately july 2021, we get several a day. Obviously these calls are a scam. Now I wonder if they can be counter attacked, or at least played with. I'm actually curious, from a security point of view, what information they're after, and what they could do with that. For instance, if I don't hang up the phone and switch on my computer, would they be able to trace that? That is, link the phone call route to the computer IP address? What would be the next step?Adrie L

    Phone scam

I now get no more weird foreign voices claiming to be from Microsoft's technical dept and many other such scams. We have been inundated with rubbish calls- before I added a call blocker device this reached 6 or 7 a day.

In the UK service providers have added a new free service that means callers are challenged to leave a short message, then press #. My phone then rings, and I have the option to add the caller to my approved list, accept this call but not add it, or simply not take the call.

I can manually add numbers to the blocked or approved list on line or using my phone.

The downside is any valid service (library reservations, some bank services) that rely on automated calls fail.

I have asked my service provider to consider adding a way to temporarily suspend the service.

I think I'll put a list of people's favourite apps in the OP, starting with my own until I get some suggestions, but you can take a look at the Windows Phone app store at the top apps to see what's popular http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store

You are both now added, welcome! *Toast :toast:

Phishing phone from someone claiming to be from Microsoft

Of course that's a scam phone call. Best to hang up on those scammers and not to engage with them.

    Suggestion to read/watch:
