Windows 10: Phone link doesn't connect to my phone despite connecting once before and connecting to...

When trying to connect to my iPhone 12 with iOS 17.5.1. I scan the QR code but it just loads on the connecting screen and on the computer Phone link stays on the QR code. Other Iphones connect as they should. I've tried resseting the app, terminating the app, uninstalling and reinstalling the app, and restarting both the phone and computer. The computer is on Windows 11 Home 23H2. The first time I connected to the phone that no longer connects, It was working fine. After moving the phone out of bluetooth range, I removed the phone from phone link on the computer thus resseting phone link, and

'obtain the phone's ISP' = 'obtain the phone's IP' I assume

You can always connect it by USB to side-step the problem

To fix the problem:-
1 Get the IP from the phone MPE client's Settings page and tell MPE on the computer to use that.
2 Once you have successfully connected using that specific IP, change the computer's MPE, File, Settings, Connections back to AutoDetect and it will pick it up however you have it connected.

I have had to repeat this IP setting up after my phone has had an OS update so perhaps that's what has happened in your case as well.

I presume you mean it should show up in the same way a Flash Drive does? It does not. But does it require OTG? I have OTG adapters to connect Flash Drives to the phone, but not an OTG cable for the PC, so I must get one. I used to connect via a cable to my Windows phone, but that did not support OTG. I often found it useful. If for some reason connecting phone and PC with a cable does not work I cannot use that method to connect with MPE.

"6. Do you get the same error whether it is a WiFi connection or USB connection? Or have you only tried USB so far?" As follows from 3, I have only connected with WiFi, not with USB.

I hope this makes sense to you! Despite what might be concluded from my response to 3. above, the PC did connect with the phone at the beginning, for about a day --- so it should be connecting now. Tomorrow I will try your other suggestions.

 

My Phone Explorer will not connect

I think I can see what you are getting at----I may have a problem connecting my phone to the PC via USB, regardless of MPE in which case MPE would have the usb problem. I have just checked and so far the phone does not show up, in Windows Explorer (or similar apps). I have not tried connecting my Android 11 phone to the PC before. It my first Android phone but I remember successfully connecting my previous Windows Lumia 345. If this is (part of) the problem I guess it would still not explain the unstable WiFi connection? I have connected the Android phone to USB Flash Drives in the past and have just done it. Has this anything to do with OTG? The connector I have just used is OTG but I have no reason to think the cable I use to connect the phone to the PC (eg. for MPE) is OTG. If it does require OTG why did MPE work so well with the phone cable when I first tried it? On another but related point I have discovered something which causes problems with MPE. When it is starting to connect and goes through the list of things to synchronise it either takes a long time or fails completely at the last two specific items, which are "Refresh file lists" and "Sync photos". If I see it struggling at this stage I know connection will not be successful.
