Windows 10: Phone Link has echo even when microphone is muted

Discus and support Phone Link has echo even when microphone is muted in Windows 10 Gaming to solve the problem; I have a similar/same problem as here Unlike Derrick suggests the quality problem is not with the headset, but with the program.     I have a similar/same problem as here Unlike Derrick suggests the quality problem is not with the headset, but with the program. I do not have this problem with any other app, including Teams.

    Hi Derrick,

    Finally had a bit of time to try this out again. Here's what I tried quickly:

    • With the original microphone:
      • Microphone unmuted, headphones unmuted: Caller gets feedback
      • Microphone hardware muted (external switch), headphones unmuted: Caller gets feedback
      • Microphone software muted (through the Phone Link app), headphones unmuted: Caller does NOT get feedback
      • Microphone unmuted, headphones mutes: Caller does NOT get feedback
    • With my webcam as the microphone:
      • Microphone unmuted, headphones unmuted: Caller gets feedback
      • Microphone software muted (through the Phone Link app), headphones unmuted: Caller does NOT get feedback
      • Microphone unmuted, headphones mutes: Caller does NOT get feedback
    I did a couple quick tests with Audacity where I listen to a YouTube video with my headphones and microphone on and I've noticed that there is a bit of leakage from the headphones into the microphone, so I think I'll need to investigate the leakage issue a bit more first.

    microphone mutes itself

    When i go into properties the mike is muted. When I unmute it works for less than a minute then mutes again. The only suggestion I have found is set as default device which does not solve problem. I have also read it is a virus but I cannot solve with malware or virus scans. It first became a problem just a few weeks ago while skyping. Never had a problem with mike until then.

    Troubleshooter finds the microphone muted and fixes, Within a minute the microphone mutes itself again.
