Windows 10: photo file sizes are huge and not opening

photos copied from phone and size of one photo is now 20 gb.. cant open it looks like this

i did decompress but still cant acces my media files any help?

WOW! I just learned something new and important for editing my photos.

You provided me with excellent quick steps to re-size the photo.

To play it safe, I made a copy of the original photo and performed your editing steps on the copied photo. I assume that by keeping the original photo . . . the higher MBs photo, I will be able to have large prints made in high resolution.

To e-mail photos for viewing only, the re-sized photo is the best way.

Regarding your first possible suggestion of an E-mail app that provides an option to automatically reduce the JPG size, my e-mail app/program is Microsoft Outlook 2016. If it's okay with you, I'd appreciate your step-by-step procedure to re-size photos.

opening .dds files with gimp

Simply, HOW? I got the DDS plugin but the POS wont open DDS files still. Can someone give me a step-by-step rundown of how to install the DDS plugin for gimp so I know if I'm missing something?

 

New blank files are huge size; Win10 Office 2016

Hi,

This was solved, and I know the steps but not why it solved it.

FYI... I did open in safe mode and it also showed huge amounts of memory when I attempted to open these files.

It was suggested I copy the file to my C drive. No folders, just the C drive. I did so, then opened Excel and then opened the file within Excel. There were some messages along the bottom of Excel as it worked to open the file. They went too fast for me to
note them.

Voila! I can now open these files and others from this group.

Sorry I can't be more specific but I'm no in IT.
