Photo import not saving in folders by month of date taken

My Original photo library was somewhat messed up including what was on OneDrive so I pulled them all down to my local computer. Having purged all the problem images and happy with the result I then copied them to a memory card and used Photos to start importing them. However Photos is dumping them all back into one folder instead of creating Year/Month folders as it used to. How do I get the import tool to transfer them to the Pictures based on the Date Taken attribute?

    :)

  2. importing photos from iphone not showing in folders by date taken

I had this problem too. Instead of going through the photos app itself, I right clicked on ‘Apple iPhone’ in file explorer and selected import from there. This opened up the option to save photos in date taken folders.

Dear stclayton1, actually your suggestion to use "Photo Gallery" worked for me.
A few stumbling blocks have to be addressed.
FYI, I am using the latest Win10-Update, 10.0.19042.

    1. You need to install "Windows Live Essentials 2012," (yes, right in 2021!), which contains "Photo Gallery".
No need to install the other components.
You can get it a.o. from:
    Windows Photo Gallery

    2. Photo Gallery may not open if you try to open the program the regular way (Start - Recently added).
Actually, it does open when you right click on any picture on your computer (Open with ...).

    3. Within Photo Gallery, the steps to follow are:
a- select the device (e.g. your SD card): you get the "Import Photos and Videos" screen

b- FIRST click on "More options" and select at "Folder name" select "Date Taken + name"
This step is critical and has to be repeated every time you import because the default is "Name".

Click OK: you revert to the previous screen
c- Select "Review ...." - this will allow you to select which pictures to import
    Click Next

d- You see all your pictures neatly sorted in a folder by date - oeffff!
Select the dates you want to import = done, you have dated folders on your computer as well!

So, as long as this old-timer works, there is a solution; please check and let me know whether this works for you!

  4. Photo import not saving in folders by month of date taken

importing photos from iphone not showing in folders by date taken

I also have the same question and have found it very frustrating. I haven't copied my photos on my IPhone X to my Windows 10 computer for a while and had about 9 months worth of photos to copy. All my photos are stored by Year-Month in folders.

I do not understand why Microsoft would suddenly remove such a useful feature. Can we not have a facility to copy all folders to a particular folder or into Year-Month folders within a selected folder. This must be frustrating a lot of Users. Come on Microsoft, please sort this problem out. Thanks in advance.
