  1. photo orientation in file explorer

My photo files are stored on an external hard drive attached to my W10 PC. Using the Details view in File Explorer, and selecting the Orientation column, most of the photos indicate "Normal" under Orientation. A few indicate "Rotate 270 Degrees". What does this mean, and how would I accomplish this rotation?Where does the "Rotate 270 Degrees" originate? Is this from the photo file Properties or Info, when viewed in the Photos app? Is the information found in Properties and Info considered metadata? Which of the Properties or Info content pertains to orientation? All photos were taken on

  2. Windows Photos on Windows 10 slow on loading image orientation data on .cr3 files

I'm currently having issues with opening portrait .cr3 files on the Windows photo app. For portrait oriented photos (ie. orientation set to rotate 90 degrees) it loads the file as a landscape shot first at 75% size, then adjusts to the correct orientation
and size with an additional 'filter' over the image that changes the colors of the original photo. I'm wondering if there is a setting in Windows photos on Windows 10 that can:

    1. integrate the orientation data so that it would load the photo in the correct orientation faster (on .cr2 files I have there is no additional orientation data and so portrait photos always load as portrait orientation)

    2. disable the automatically generated "photo enhancements" that photos overlay to cut down on loading time on the photos. (I have read a thread from 2016 listing the setting under Settings > Viewing and Editing but that
specific setting is not there in my version of the app.)

Photo Orientation on Old Scanned Photos is Wrong and Corrections Do Not Last

I loaded some old scanned photos from a thumb drive into my new computer with Microsoft 11 Home. The original scanned photos were scanned in 2008-2009. I had corrected the orientation of the photos that needed it back then, but now that I have put these same files on my new computer I have noticed that the orientation is incorrect again in File Explorer.

I have done some research and if I understand correctly, the newer versions of Microsoft try to auto-correct the orientation, but since there is no information about the photo from the camera (since they are scanned), this auto-correct does not work for scanned photos.

I would like to fix the orientation, if I can, in the Windows file, rather than in a photo editing program, in a way that Windows will recognize the "fixed" photo orientation. That way I can have a clean file of correctly oriented photos that I can use for a variety of purposes. I tried to do this using the rotate function in File Explorer, but the correction does not last, i.e. when I open the corrected photo again, the orientation is again wrong.

I would greatly appreciate any help with this! Please let me know if you need any additional information. Thanks!

  4. photo orientation in file explorer

    streamed photo orientation

I keep photos, videos, documents files on an external hard drive attached to my Windows 10 PC. When I view the photos on the PC, through both the Photos app or Windows Media Player, the orientation is correct.

When I use WMP to stream the photos to my Roku Ultra and view them on the attached television, the orientation for some photos is incorrect. When I use Mezzmo to stream the photos the orientation remains correct for all of them.

Any ideas on why WMP streaming displays some photo orientations incorrectly, while Mezzmo streaming always retains the correct orientation?

I keep both WMP and Mezzmo streaming available since sometimes one of them works while the other does not. I am not sure why this may happen at different times.

    thank you
