Windows 10: Photo screen saver either won't work or mouse won't discontinue

The photo app included with Win 10 takes forever to start as screensaver. Opens a black screen then just sits there.

To solve this in the past I installed win photo gallery but now I can't end screen saver with my mouse or by hitting a key as usual. I have to open the laptop and hit the power button to get the screen saver to shut down.

I've spent an hour or two on the phone with microsoft, even with 'level two' tech help or whatever with no results. That guy was only doing all the things I'd already tried.

Then he told me he'd send it to another tech dept. and they'd do an update of some sort in about a week.

I can't believe I'm the only one with this issue. I'm pretty sure the same problem existed from win 8 onwards.... with this machine.

PC gets "stuck" in sleep mode

Thank you very much for your response. Your suggestion makes sense but I was nervous about refreshing or reinstalling Windows 10 because I was afraid it might create more problems.

I figured out that I could manually put my PC into sleep mode and easily "wake" it back up either by hitting the space bar or mouse. It won't flip through the screen saver pictures that way, but at least I can wake it up without hitting Cntrl/Alt/Delete.

I also changed the settings so that it turns off the display after being idle for 15 minutes and then it goes to sleep in 45 minutes. It won't flip through the screen saver pictures this way either, but I am able to wake it up again using the space bar or
mouse. If it really starts annoying me that I'm not seeing the screen saver pictures, I'll get brave and look at refreshing Windows. Thank you again.

 

Screen Saver won't turn off

After installing Win10 Creators update, the Screen Saver won't turn off with mouse or any key. Only Ctrl-Alt-Del, then cancel, returns me to my screen.

What happens if you navigate to C:/Windows/System32 and click on PhotoScreensaver.scr?

 

Found 'photoscreensaver' under that but no 'scr.' Clicked on it and the screen went black for a few seconds. Right clicked and opened it and screen went black, then one pix came up and then went back to browser...???

 

I have the same problem, cannot clear screensaver with mouse. Must use CTL ALT DEL, then select CANCEL. Problem started when I updated WIN10 a few days ago.

 

Thanks. Actually worked. I didn't know until I looked into all this that the new screens don't need screensavers as they don't 'burn in' like the old crts did, or so I understand.

But I still like my pix screensaver....
