I shoot in raw + Jpeg, so the camera has both a *.RAF file and a *.JPG, both with the same file number. When importing from the camera, Photos app will import either the raw OR the jpeg of each number, but will not copy both. Futher, it seems to do so at random. I get a copy of each photo, but not all jpgs and not all raws.

    :)

How to get rid of raw file support in windows photo viewer?

Photos app seems to ignore RAW or jpeg files randomly when importing 196782d1532328622t-how-get-rid-raw-file-support-windows-photo-viewer-reg-merge.png

I have downloaded this, and it did not work; photo viewer is not in the list of programs in Open With or Default App. I used option 2 step 3, followed by step 5 to 9.

    importing photos

Thank you for clearing that out. It looks like you are importing the files using the Photos app. When you import photos using this app, the files get imported into your Pictures library. To view these files, refer to these steps:

    • Open File Explorer.
    • On the list of folders on the left side of the window, click on Pictures. You shall see the photos imported from the SD card using the Photos app.

Another option you have is to import the files solely using File Explorer. Here's how you can do it:

    • Connect the SD card into the computer.
    • Launch File Explorer.
    • Click on This PC.
    • Locate your SD card under Devices and drives.
    • Double-click on the SD card.
    • Manually choose which photos to move into your local folders. Right-click on each photo and choose
Copy (Ctrl + C) then go to the destination folder then right-click on an empty space in the window and select
      Paste (Ctrl + V).
    • If you are importing all the photos, you can press Ctrl + A on the keyboard to select all of the files. Copy then Paste them into the destination folder.
    • If you are importing selective photos, hold the Ctrl key while clicking on the photos you want to copy. This will let you choose a number of photos instead of selecting all of them like what Step 7 suggests.

Once you're able to get the hang of the tricks, importing photos will not be a challenge anymore.

Tell us which method works best for you.

We're here if you need more help.

    RAW Photos in Photos App

Hi Apeman_3663, I am Paulo and I'd like to help.

Unfortunately, the option to disable the auto-enhance in Photos was removed. I understand the sentiments as this has been a problem even in Windows 10 and there is still an active thread on this.

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

A workaround suggested by other users in the thread was to restore the old Windows Photo Viewer and set it as your default for raw images.

See if the method suggested here from another Windows 11 forum thread could still work to restore it

    https://www.elevenforum.com/t/windows-photo-vie...

I would suggest though to create a restore point first using System Restore to backup your registry.

    https://www.groovypost.com/howto/create-a-resto...

If Windows Photo Viewer doesn't work and didn't remove any enhancements on your images, another way is to use a third-party app viewer as other users did in the thread. Here's where you can check some

    https://listoffreeware.com/list-of-best-raw-fil...

I would also like to suggest sending feedback using the Feedback Hub app by pressing Windows key + F as this is a way to get in touch with the developers.
