Windows 10: Photos App Win10 - Make "Save" the default choice instead of "Save a Copy"?

I am batch cropping some images for a project, and I absolutely DO NOT need to keep the originals.


Is there some way to change the default save action to "Save" instead of "Save a Copy"?

All "save" keyboard shortcuts I know - Ctrl+S Ctrl+Shift+S Alt+Ctrl+S - prompt me to "Save a Copy".


Yes, I know I could just save a cropped copy, and then delete the original, but I am being stubborn about this

Photos: Try Saving a copy instead

I have been using Photos App to edit my photos and then during one session, when I tried to save my edits, I got the message "Try saving a copy instead". So, I clicked the "Save a Copy" button and it still gave me the same error.

It is strange that I just edited and able to save a couple of pictures before I got that error.

I checked my permissions and I have full control.

 

Default App not saving

I'm trying to have all image files open in Windows Photo Viewer instead of the new Photos app. I already edited my registry to get the option to use WPV, and have successfully associated .jpg files with it. I have tried many times to associate other extensions, too, but none of them have saved. I have even removed Photos (the app) from my system, in the hopes that it would allow me to select a new default app, but it just opens in Paint 3D instead.
The default apps settings page doesn't give me the option to use WPV, nor does "Choose default apps by file type" or "Set defaults by app". Right-clicking and selecting "Open With" does give me the option to open with WPV, but even if I check the "Always use this app to open _____ files" checkbox, the next time I double click another file with the same extension, it opens in Paint 3D again.

 

How to change the Photo App default Save a Copy location

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone knew how to change the default save location for the Photos App when you want to save a copy after editing.

All my photos are kept on separate drive but if I choose to save a copy the Photos App automatically saves it to the C drive.

I figure I'll probably have to go into the registry to change this but not sure where to find it or what to look for, I very little experience editing the registry.
