Photos app working oddly in Windows 11 Pro - can only see specific files

I am using Windows 11 Pro on two laptops. Both have all of the latest Microsoft updates. Today I noticed that upon opening the Photos app the only thumbnails I see are photos that are located in the Pictures > Photos folder child folders of Photos also appear. Everything else gets a blank tile that can't be double-clicked see screen shot. However, if I double click on any photo in File Explorer for example, one located in the Downloads folder, it opens properly in the Photos App.I have repaired, reset and uninstalled/reinstalled Photos and the problem has not been corrected. Any guess

    :)

  2. The photos app that came with Windows 11 stopped working

Here are some suggestions.. one of which may work:

    1) Uninstall Photos using PowerShell and download/install the Older (Windows 10 version) Photos App

If that doesn't help, try #2.

    2) Uninstall Photos using PowerShell and delete the Photos app package folder as mentioned under "Step 2: Uninstall Photos, Remove Leftover Files, and Reinstall" on this page.

Let's hope one of the above methods works.

Make the Windows Photos app the default app for an unrecognized file type

Hi there! I'm trying to make files that have a specific file extension (.mpo) open in the Windows Photos app, but I can't figure out how to do it. The Photos app is not listed in Windows's suggested list of default apps, and I can't use the "Look for another app on this PC" option because the Windows Photos app seems to be located in an inaccessible folder ("C:\Program Files\WindowsApps"). Is there a workaround for this? The files that I'm trying to open all use a file format that's backwards compatible with the JPEG image format, so the Photos app should work with them.

editing video in windows 10 photo app

    Thanks for the information.

If the issue happened after installing the Polarr Pro, we suggest that you uninstall the app first and check if the photo app will work.

To uninstall a program in Windows 10, follow these steps:

    • Go to Control Panel.
    • Click Programs.
    • Look for Programs and Features.
    • Right-click Polarr Pro.
    • Click Uninstall.

Get back to us with the result.
