Windows 10: photos legacy "no readable photos, videos or folders found"

I get the "no readable photos, videos or folders found" from Photos Legacy on a lot of folders when there are pictures there. I understand that Microsoft moved on, but I really wanted the facial recognition. I have over 100,000 photos in 2 folder trees, lots of sub-folders.I have the same duplicatable problem on a Win 10 and Win 11 machine with the same photos. [And yes, it took days to finish indexing] I can see the pictures with the new Photos app and with File Explorer. SO, it’s not file corruption or indexing. I’m afraid this is why Microsoft no longer supports it and stuck Legacy after it

Another thing to try, a procedural that "fixed" me. I have a QNAP NAS where I store my photos, so I read all the issues with the non-Pictures folders needing permissions. After adding all the different accounts listed (SYSTEM, ADMINISTRATORS, and the user
I'm logged in as), when I was in the Folders tab, it would still tell me there were no readable photos after a refresh. I even tried removing the folder and re-adding it.

I was ready to throw in the towel when someone else's post made me try the following.

• Open the folder in File Explorer.
• Browse to a photo and double click it. It should open in Photo Viewer. (Look, you can read it just fine, you piece of junk!)
• At the top should be a banner with "View all photos" on the left. If not, click on the ellipses on the right (aka More Options) and look for it in the menu. Click on it, telling Photo Viewer to "View all photos"!
• BANG! The Collection view is brought up, and the refresh goes into overtime as it starts reading all those photos!

Maybe something in the Refresh, something that's cached, isn't REALLY refreshing...

Anyway, hope it helps someone else with this poorly-tested app.

 

Folders on SD card - "No readable photos, videos or folders found"

  Which are the folders liked and disliked by Photos app when you say “Seems like some of the folders are "liked" by the Photos app, while others aren't. The "dislike" is permanent”?

  Did you checked whether the Folders on the SD card appear when you insert the SD card into another computer?
  

Note: You will get the error in the folders on SD card “No readable photos, videos or folders found" only if there is no content or the files might have corrupted in the particular
folder.

No readable photos, videos or folders found

Nothing has worked for me. Tried folder permissions, running the troubleshooter, resetting the Photos app.

Only photos are not being shown, videos are shown.

Any suggestions?
