  1. Photos washed out after cropping/editing in Microsoft Photos

Hey! So I’ve tried to find a solution online and found a similar issue re videos which appears to have been fixed…my issue is with photos. As soon as I make an adjustment to a photo using the Microsoft photos app e.g cropping, changing size or straightening, the image appears washed out. I now have a mixture of original bright, saturated images and a load with like a grey overlay. Soooo frustrating. Please can anybody help? Or suggest an alternative program. I’m not a photographer or trying to make complicated edits- just cropping/straightening my images! There is no option to turn off any

    :)

Now you will have the option in the right click menu for all images.

  3. Unable to save an edited (cropped) photo

All of a sudden, when I crop a photo in the windows photo editing app ("edit and crop"), the option to "save" is greyed out and the only option is save a copy - fine, but when I click "save a copy" it saves the original photo without the edits. This never happened in the past, and I am now unable to save any edits to my photo. What's going on?

    Photo editing

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

Cropping a photo to a specific size like 4x6 inches in Windows 11 using built-in tools might be a bit tricky because the Photos app primarily offers cropping based on aspect ratios rather than specific dimensions. However, you can still achieve your goal by using a combination of the Photos app for basic editing and Paint for resizing to precise measurements. Here's how:

    Using Microsoft Photos and Paint:

    1. Open the photo in the Microsoft Photos app.
    2. Click on the Edit & Create button on the top menu and select Edit.
    3. In the editing window, choose Crop & Rotate. Here, you can crop the image using the aspect ratio closest to 4x6. For a 4x6 photo, the aspect ratio is 2:3 (or 3:2 depending on the orientation).
    4. After cropping, save the photo.
    5. Next, open the saved photo with Paint (search for it in the Start menu).
    6. In Paint, click on Resize in the toolbar.
    7. Select the Pixels option, and ensure Maintain aspect ratio is checked. Enter the pixel dimensions that correspond to a 4x6 image at your desired DPI (dots per inch). For example, for a print quality of 300 DPI, you would use 1200x1800 pixels for a 4x6 photo.
    8. Save your resized photo.
You can also try searching for some third-party photo editing apps. Due to current forum restrictions, I am unable to recommend any to you, but you can search for some reputable apps on your own.

Given Windows Photo Viewer's limited editing capabilities, exploring alternative photo editing software might offer you a better range of editing options and a more satisfying overall experience.

Please feel free to let me know how it goes.

    Best regards
