Windows 10: Picture Preview Pane not working in File Explorer anymore = possibly OneDrive related

Hi. Not sure entirely when this happened but think it was when I either decided to use OneDrive on my picture folders or after I upgraded to Win 11.Anyway I am an amateur photographer and i normally go through a first set of deletes after downloading pictures from my camera a Canon. I normally have the preview pane open so i can just click on an image normally at medium icon setting in the list and then i get a much larger preview on the right. This has not stopped working unless i edit a picture, save to the same location and then click on it. But later the preview disappears. This is ver

Setting the Preview pane to show or hide in File Explorer will apply to all folders. If you wish to hide the Preview pane in File Explorer, we suggest that you follow the steps below:

• Open File Explorer.
• Tap on View tab.
• Click Preview Pane to view/hide it.

Preview pane (file explorer) not always working on OneDrive files

Having opened a .jpg or .mpg etc , look at 'recent files' in file explorer- the files appear in preview pane as expected- I have come across this problem on the six machines I have checked. To get the preview pane to work again either uncheck the 'files
on demand' in onedrive settings or (with care!!) 'Unlink' the onedrive in settings. All the local files will now show up as normal!! Sorry I can't be of more help.

Thank you for keeping us posted. We apologize for the delay as we are checking this case thoroughly.

Since the above troubleshooting steps did not work, let us try a different method to fix this.

It's possible that the thumbnail cache becomes corrupted. Resulting your thumbnails to display incorrectly and some files may not show as thumbnail preview, or sometimes preview is not available at all.

Recreate the thumbnail cache using Disk Cleanup

• Open File Explorer.
• On the left pane, click This PC.
• Right-click the C: drive where Windows 10 is installed, and select
  Properties.
• Click the Disk Cleanup button.
• Check the Thumbnails option, and uncheck all the other options.
• Click OK.
• Click Delete Files to confirm and to complete the task.

You may also recreate the thumbnail cache using Command Prompt just in case the above steps did not work.

• Open Start.
• Search for Command Prompt.
• Right-click the result and select Run as administrator.
• Type the following command to stop File Explorer and press Enter:
  • taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
• Type the following command to delete all the thumbnail database files without asking for confirmation and press
  Enter:
  • del /f /s /q /a %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer\thumbcache_*.db
• Type the following command to start File Explorer and press Enter:
  • start explorer.exe
• Close Command Prompt to complete the task.
