Windows 10: Picture View Gone From Desktop Replaced with Image File Icon or PDF Icon

I download lots of photos to use elsewhere on the web like my Etsy site. Since the most recent update 5-7-20 all my photos on my desktop are now a picture of a blue mountain with a moon as in it's an "image file". I need to see the pictures. I don't want to have to click on the icon to see the picture. Most of the time I right click and save with some bogus random letters so I don't know what the image is now unless I click on it now. Huge waste of time. How do I change this back so I can see the picture immediately? Same things with pdf files I download. I want to see the picture of what I downloaded not the icon PDF. I download lots of free quilt patterns. If I'm looking for a pattern I know it by the photo not by the name. Now I have to click on each one to see if it's the one I'm looking for.

Remove Linux Desktop Icons

I am not sure whether this will work (Ubuntu does not have icons like that on the desktop by default), but I suggest opening the trash bin and sweeping the icons into the window showing the trash bin.

Maybe the just got shut off. Try Right-click on desktop -> View -> Show Desktop Icons.

the icons are located in 'all users' folder somewhere (for example, i see a few shared icons in "C:\Users\Public\Desktop" )

The only way to fix those, is to remove the icons from there, and place them on to each users desktops manually. an admin may need to do this.
