  1. Pin Files to Jump List on Taskbar Items by Dragging?

I just got a new Windows 11 laptop. With Windows 10, I was able to drag folders onto icons on taskbar for programs that could open them--for instance, I could drag PDF files onto the icon for Acrobat PDF DC Reader, and make a jump list. So far with Windows 10, I have only been able to open the file in the program, and then after right-clicking the icon in the taskbar, in the recent files list, pin that folder to a jump list. Can I simply drag the file itself, or will I have to first open it up, and then pin it from the Recent list?

    :)

    Microsoft Office Taskbar Jump Lists

    Hi Ken,

For us to better assist you with the taskbar Jump Lists issue, we'd like to know the following:

    • Were there any changes made to the computer prior to this issue (e.g. Windows updates)?
    • Does the issue also occur on other pinned apps/files?

In the meantime, we suggest to turn off/on Jump Lists in Settings. To do so, please follow the steps below:

    • Press Windows key + i to open Settings, then select
      Personalization.
    • In the left pane, click Start.
    • Turn Off then turn On Show recently opened items in Jump Lists on the Start or the taskbar.

We're looking forward to your reply.

Pin or Unpin Items on Jump Lists in Windows 10

    @Brink:
Another couple of tricks I've found:

If you create a 'Super Hidden' folder and pin it to Quick Access, then re-hide 'Protected System Files and Folders', it will no longer show in the Navigation Pane but, it will still show in File Explorer Taskbar Jump Lists, and be navigable.

Also, there are certain folders you can pin to Quick Access, such as 'search-ms:', when there, but they too will not show in the Navigation Pane but will also show in Taskbar Jump Lists!

Thought this info may be useful! *Wink

Pinned Office Files do not Stay Pinned; No Recent Files List; [Jump Lists]

I ran into a problem again recently when I was helping set up a coworker's workspace.

Right-clicking on office programs in the Task Bar (for me) always shows my recently opened files and files I have pinned there. His weren't showing recent files at all. He could pin files, but they dropped off the list once they were closed.

I searched the web and found MANY unanswered question posts about this. I'm hoping this might help someone. If anything, it will help me the next time I forget.

The feature that allows you to see those recent and pinned files is called Jump Lists. I don't know if it was the admins at our company or if it is off by default, but Jump Lists were turned off. If you are having this issue on your work computer, your first
step is to make sure Jump Lists are turned on.

You can turn on Jump Lists in these settings:

Windows Settings > Personalization > Start > Show recently opened items in Jump Lists on Start or the taskbar (Toggle it On).

You could also just search for Jump within the start menu to get to these settings.
