  1. Pin instead of a password, no access to the microsoft account

My computer suddenly started to ask for a pin, instead of a password. However, I do not have a pin. However, I still cannot login, as the hotmail account I used for the computer years ago is lost now, and I cannot access it. How can i recover the hotmail account, or can i enter the system without recovering that account?

    :)

We appreciate the screenshot that you provided. to start troubleshooting the issue with you logins, we suggest that you follow the steps below on how login pin goes back to password:

    • Click Start menu and go to Settings.
    • In Settings, click the Accounts icon.
    • Click on Sign-in options.
    • Change both your password and pin one by one.
Let us know how it goes.

Cannot sign into user account with pin instead of password

Build 9926, after setting up a dual install of Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, you should be able to sign into a user account (std.) using a pin instead of a password. The account uses a Microsoft account and when trying to personalize the sign-in to a pin, appears to show the normal screen progression that the pin is accepted, confirmed using the password, but the after signing out and trying to go back into the user account, no pin is offered. Only password sign in available.

Anyone else seeing this problem? Solutions? I tried going into group policy and found pin sign in by default is disabled. I enabled the policy, but that does not correct it.

  4. Pin instead of a password, no access to the microsoft account

Issue with login. Does not allow me to use pin or fingerprint, only Microsoft account password

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

I understand the urgency of your situation. It seems like you're encountering a challenge with logging into your laptop after a Windows update. Since you don't have the password for the Microsoft account associated with the laptop and you primarily use fingerprint or PIN to log in, there are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    1. Local Account Option (Offline):
      • Try to log in using a local account instead of the Microsoft account. To do this:
        1. On the login screen, if you see an option "Sign in with a local account instead," choose that.
        2. Follow the prompts to create a new local account. You can set a PIN or password for this local account.
    2. Reset Microsoft Account Password:
      • If you're sure that the laptop is tied to a Microsoft account, you might need to recover or reset the password for that account.
        1. Visit the Microsoft account recovery page on a different device: https://account.live.com/password/reset
        2. Follow the steps to reset the password. You might need to provide some verification information.
        3. Once you reset the password, use it to log into your laptop.
    3. Backup and Reinstallation (Last Resort):
      • If all else fails, and you urgently need access to your laptop for your exams, you might consider backing up your important data by removing your system drive from your laptop and backup your files on another pc, then performing a clean reinstallation of Windows on your laptop. This would remove any login-related issues, but you would need to reinstall your software and restore your data.
Please be aware that if the laptop was set up with your father's Microsoft account and you're unable to regain access to it, you might need to perform a fresh setup with your own Microsoft account or a local account.

I recommend you prioritize reaching out to your university's IT department for assistance as they might be able to offer more specific guidance based on your situation and their policies.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thanks.

    Best regards
