    PIN not working after windows reinstall


    So today I reinstalled windows for the first time, I chose to keep my files. It took the whole day to complete. Or at least 3 hours. So after the reinstall, I try to log back in and see that where it usually says "PIN" because I use a pin and not a password had changed to "password". I tried my usual pin and it didn't work. I tried other pins and passwords and nothing. I tried to reset password and it told me I needed a password reset disk, which I do not have. Please help me get back on my PC.*** Moved from fr-fr ***

    It is possible that the PIN set in an earlier build does not work after reinstalling Windows 10. To better assist you, we'd like clarify few things:

    • Which build and version of Windows 10 is installed on your computer?
    • Which build and version of Windows 10 are you using before reinstalling Windows?
    • Have you tried resetting your PIN?
    • Did you get any error messages after you verified the PIN you entered?

    Meanwhile, we suggest that you follow the steps in this
    article     on how you can reset your PIN.

    Hi Bhaumik,

    The possible cause of this issue is corruption of files or it could be missing registry settings. To address your concern, we suggest you to follow these steps:

    • Open File Explorer and browse to this location:
      C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\NGC
    • Delete everything within that folder
    • Go to Settings > Accounts >Sign-in Options, click Add a PIN again and set your PIN
    • PIN sign in should work going forward

    Hi Kevin,

    To resolve your concern about creating pin to your computer, we suggest that you follow these steps:

    • Navigate to C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\NGC (click to get permission when prompted).
    • Delete the contents of that folder (delete everything in that folder, but leave that folder and everything above it).
    • Go back to settings, accounts, sign in options.
    • Your non-working pin will now be gone, and you can just click 'add a pin' and set it again.
