Windows 10: PIN request - when I never set one

My Windows login started asking for a PIN a few months ago. I always cancelled out of it because I never set one up and didn't want to have to remember another code. But recently, I installed a new version of Office, and it won't let me access Office without a PIN. When I try to go to Settings to change it, "Window Hello PIN" says "This option is currently unavailable - click to learn more". When I click it tells me "Sorry, this PIN isn't working for your organization's resources. Tap or click here to fix it." I then click through several more windows only to get a "Something went wrong" window with Error code: 0x801c044f, Correlation ID: af132428-6eaf-0002-487a-15afaf6ed601.

This computer is my own personal computer, so I don't understand what organization decides the PIN isn't working.

I had just changed my Microsoft account password already, so it isn't that.

Set Nokia 5230 to request lock code (not pin) at startup.

As the title suggests I want to set my 5230 to request the lock code at startup (the one thats 12345 by default). But not to request the code when bringing it out of standby.



I used to have it set that way, but since updating the firmware I can only find the option to request the sim pin or to set it to lock after x minutes.



Has it changed in v40 or am I being thick?

How to get rid of your hello pin when you've never set one?

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.



I understand that you are prompted for a Windows Hello Pin when you have not set it in your Windows 10 computer.



It is very unusual that the Windows Hello prompt pops up when you have not set it. However, not to worry, we can try a few steps and try to resolve this issue.

1. Are you able to login to your computer using Windows 10 password?
   
2. Are you using a Microsoft Account or a Local Account?
   

If you are able to login, then delete the NGC folder and then restart the PC and check.

1. Press Windows + E to open
   File Explorer.
   
2. On the left hand pane click on This PC.
   
3. Now navigate to the location C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft.
   
4. Right click on the NGC folder and click on
   Delete.
   
5. Click on Yes.
   

In case you are receiving permission error then try running the command and see if you are able to delete it.

1. Press Windows +
   S key together to open Search.
   
2. Now type CMD and select Run as administrator.
   
3. Accept the UAC prompts.
   
4. Type in the following commands one by one and hit
   Enter:
   
   icacls C:WindowsServiceProfilesLocalServiceAppDataLocalMicrosoftNgc /T /Q /C /RESET
   

If you have trouble logging in Normal Mode, try booting the computer in
Safe Mode. Ideally, Safe Mode will not ask for a Windows Hello Pin, and it should directly prompt for your user account password.



Once logged in, try the above steps to rename the NGC folder and restart in Normal Mode.
