Windows 10: Ping Spikes, Intermittent Internet Speeds

Hello,I am using Windows 11, 11th Gen Intel Core i5 *** Email address is removed for privacy *** GHz; 6 core 32GB Ram new build this year.My internet speeds often get ping spikes and latency issues, and will go from 200+MB down, decreasing to 40MB at ALL times throughout the day, morning, noon, late night.I found a support tab here where a user had similar issues. These will often fix the problem and give me 200+ down and consistent speeds, but if I shut down my system, the problem comes back with high pings and lower internet speeds.I've also changed my DNS servers, changed location of WiFi all my other devices get 200+ do

My Pc is in my room so i cant use lan but before it used to be in the living room and it didn't get those ping spikes I downloaded all the drivers for the PCIE WIFI but it still gets those spikes. The download speed is very good at 30mp/s.

There are certain things we can control or influence while using the internet, our ISPs network and beyond is not usually one of those areas.

The internet and/or path to a specific website server can be much more complex than you can image and sporadic or intermittent delays can appear at random resulting in the latency spikes as your screen capture show. Time of day and network maintenance can influence latency as well as failing equipment belonging to an ISP or data transport company. Your screenshots don't appear that unusual.

You can follow the tracert results to determine exactly where these intermittent delays occur and confirm that they're far from your home network and usually buried deep within the path from your ISPs equipment to the webserver you're accessing. If your tracert results are showing huge delays within your own home network, that's something to correct with changes to configuration and/or hardware.


My latency performance will rarely compete with a cable or fibre internet connection because I live in the country and don't have access to anything but a Wireless internet service.







Another method of proofing relative network stability/latency is to use a continuous ping. Try to limit the duration of this test as it does provide some amount of network congestion, even if it uses a lower priority than other traffic. Some ISPs and websites don't acknowledge ICMP traffic and your tracert or ping results will show a * with 'request timed out'.

Ping spikes

On monday my ISP installed new router and cable going to my house. Everything worked fine for first 2 days, I was really happy with the speed of download and low stable ping, but today I experienced huge ping spikes is online games to the point of making them unplayable.

I tested connection with ping google.com -n 20 command and it lost 15% of the packets.

In task manager I saw 2 new processes that I've never seen before: Client DNS and Client DHCP. Task manager showed me that they use internet connection for something but I couldn't find their function, maybe they are part of the problem?
