Pinned file explorer on taskbar not working

The Pinned file explorer on the taskbar doesn't work for few days.If I left click the file explorer icon, nothing will happen. If I click again to do anything on the taskbar, the taskbar will just freeze. However, the file explorer can be opened via start menu, desktop icon, or right click on the pinned file manager icon on the taskbar then select any folder. If the file explorer is successfully opened once from somewhere else like start menu, the pinned icon on the taskbar will work just fine. If I restart the file explorer in the task manager, the problem returns.I have tried unpinning and pi

    Hi,

To assist you with your concern, we suggest you pin the File Explorer from the Start Menu by following these steps:

    • Click the Start Menu.
    • Right-click File Explorer.
    • Choose Pin to taskbar.

If you need further assistance, feel free to reply to this post.

    Pinning To File Explorer

I can confirm that in 1903 I can click and drag a folder and pin it to File Explorer on the taskbar. I can also confirm that the pinned folders on the taskbar are the same ones show in Quick Access in File Explorer, and that pinning a new one to the taskbar adds it to Quick Access.

It may be that your File Explorer jump list is corrupted. This can happen occasionally and have similar odd effects to those you describe. If so, you can delete the jump list and start again with an empty list. To do so, delete the file:

    %appdata%\microsoft\windows\recent\automaticdestinations\f01b4d95cf55d32a.automaticDestinations-ms

To clear the jump lists for all apps, not just the one for File Explorer, see this tutorial.
