    Pinning Excel Spreadsheet to the taskbar


    This is the second time that an update has occurred and I have lost my ability to show spreadsheets on my Excel taskbar. I cannot drag from File explorer and my Display is setup correct. Can you please tell me how I can get this feature back.

    Pinning Individual Excel Files in Taskbar

    Hello,

    Used to be able to see recent files and pin individual Excel files within my Excel icon on the taskbar, but in Windows 10 pro/Excel 365 I can no longer do it. Is there a setting that can be changed or am I just stuck with the clunky in program pin option?
    It drives me nuts to have to open Excel to find pinned spreadsheets or having to go to the right folder to find the spreadsheet.

    Here is the icon I am talking about where I used to see recent files listed:

    How To Pin Spreadsheets to Program Icons In Windows 10

    I've seen a million questions about how to pin a file to taskbar or start menu in Windows 10. I wanted to share something that I found. Did you know you can pin individual spreadsheets to the Excel Program icon context menu so that wherever the program icon
    appears you have access to your spreadsheet, including in the Start Menu or on the taskbar?

    1. Drop a shortcut of a spreadsheet on your desktop.
    2. Rename it to what you want to have appear within the program context menu. This is the menu that appear when you right click a program icon in Start Menu or on Taskbar.
    3. Make sure you either have the Excel open or already pinned to your taskbar. As long as Excel is currently showing up on your taskbar.
    4. Click and drag the shortcut from your desktop onto the top of the Excel icon on the taskbar until you are asked if you want to pin it. Say yes.
    5. To test, right click any Excel program icon in order to get the context menu to appear. You should see your spreadsheet shortcut in the menu now.

    Option to pin to taskbar is missing for Excel in Windows 10

    Hello Kent,

    Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.

    We understand the inconvenience you have experienced.

    Usually when you're working on any Excel file, you can see an instance of Excel Icon will be located on taskbar. Simply right-click and selecting
    Pin to taskbar will do this. Let me elaborate this in steps.

    * Open new Excel sheet or any Excel file which you're working. (I.e. to open new Excel sheet, press
    Start, type Excel and select same from the list)

    * Go to Taskbar and then right-click on opened Excel file located on taskbar.

    * Now select Pin to taskbar.

    Another way is, go to Start /> All apps, then navigate alphabetically till you find
    Excel. Then right-click on, point to More and select Pin to taskbar.

    Done, this will Pin Excel sheet to Taskbar. You can follow the same steps for pinning any application to taskbar.

    Keep us posted the outcome.
