Windows 10: Pinning my printer to the taskbar

At certain times when I have printer issues I come across internet suggestions to go to the task bar and right click on the printer icon and then use of of the topics that are shown. Problem is, I don't have a printer icon on the task bar and never did. Further suggestions say to right click on the printer icon on my desktop and then click on "Pin to taskbar". Well, "Pin to task bar" does not show up as an option when I right click. I've also tried to click on the desktop icon and drag to the task bar but that doesn't work either.

I believe I have the latest version of Edge and am using a Dell desktop with windows 10.


BTW, I have tried to pose this question to Microsoft online but didn't have the patience to wait until my position 359 was addressed


Any suggestions??????

Pinning "Settings" to the Taskbar

I've tried both suggestions. But thanks to your(?) earlier post, I do have an icon pinned to the taskbar for settings.

Both were my posts In fact, at first I forgot to post the usual steps to pin Settings to taskbar, and rather complicated (which I thought) by suggesting you create a shortcut. Hence the 2nd post. Anyway, glad the shortcut method helped.

I added a third step to the first suggestion, which worked for me:

1. Choose start> All apps,

2. Scroll to the application you want to pin, right click and then click
Pin to taskbar.

3. When the desired icon tile appears in the desktop box, left click on it and drag it into the task bar.

This is not an easy thing to do. It might vary Printer to Printer but I would be inclined to say that Pinning a Printer to the TaskBar is not possible. You can place Shortcuts on the Desktop for a Printer. And you might see and option of Pinning the Shortcut
to the TaskBar, but probably not. You might be able to paste that Shortcut to a resurrected Quick Launch ToolBar?

If you open the software for your Printer via C:\Program Files\blah blah etc. There might be something in there that can be Pinned to the TaskBar. For example I can pin this .exe to the TaskBar.

C:\Program Files\HP\HP Photosmart 5520 series\Bin\ HP Photosmart 5520 series.exe

It may be necessary to show both Hidden, and System Files, and also to uncheck "Hide known file types" in Control Panel/ Folder Options/ View, to navigate to the mentioned location, and to see file extensions.
