    Play Digital Audio Over USB?


    I have a laptop Lenovo P1 Gen2 running Window 10 vs. 1909. It has various types of available USB connectors. I also have a CD player on my hi-fi system Marantz CD6006 with a USB input on the front panel. I don't appear to have a driver on the computer to send digital audio over USB, however, since the only option available in Settings/Sound/Output is "Speakers Synaptics Audio."


    Google found a few Microsoft articles about problems relating to digital audio in Win10 1909, but none seems to give clear instructions how to properly do this. How can I send digital audio from an online source to my external device without screwing up something else? -- JCW2

    No sound while playing audio and video files.

    Hi,

    I appreciate if you could answer to a few questions to narrow down to the issue.

    • Which is the application that you are using to play the files?
    • Did you try the same on a different player?
    • Did you perform any troubleshooting steps?
    As an initial troubleshooting step, I suggest you to check if the volume is set low or in mute state in Volume Mixer.

    • Right click on sound icon.
    • Open Volume Mixer check for the application that you are playing the files with and increase the volume and check.
    If the issue still persists, I would suggest you to run “Playing audio” troubleshooter to diagnose and fix the issue.

    Follow these Steps to run Playing Audio Troubleshooter in Windows 10.

    1. Type troubleshooting in the search bar.

    2. Select Troubleshooting.

    3. Select View all on the top left corner.

    4. Click on Playing audio.

    USB Audio Codec Driver

    After following all these steps, my usb audio device still does not work. In Settings > Connected devices it list USB Audio Codec Driver is unavailable.

    Play Digital Audio Over USB?

    Digital Audio Cable

    The My P5Q-E motherboard supports:
    • Digital coaxial outputs
    • 3.5mm jacks front and rear, but you need a RCA to 3.5mm cable
    Both cable methods carry stereo for games, MP3s etc unless you use the receivers 2.0 to 5.1 up mix feature such as Prologic or DTS Neo.

    I'll advise you use digital coaxial as you'll be able to listen to Dolby Digital and DTS from genuine DVDs (not DD True HD or DTS Masters)
