  1. Play music on laptop speakers via Windows Remote Desktop from PC

I'm running Windows 10 20H2 on a couple of refurbished computers, a Dell laptop and a Lenovo PC, connected together on a cabled network. I use Windows Remote Desktop to access the laptop from my PC.

I store my music files on the laptop. I have a stereo connector cable running from the headphone jack on the laptop to the input jacks on a stereo receiver with two medium sized speakers. This set-up works fine for playing music as long as I'm working from my laptop.

When I'm working at my PC, I'd like to be able to access the laptop via Windows Remote Desktop and be able to play MP3 files stored on the laptop through the speakers that are connected to the laptop. But when I try this, the music comes out of the tiny (dare I say "tinny"?) internal speaker in the PC under my desk.

I looked in Windows' settings, and found that when I'm accessing the laptop from the PC, the "Output" setting has been peremptorily changed from "Speakers" to "Remote Audio." And the down-arrow in that field is unresponsive, so I'm unable to change the output.

Is there a way I can add a second choice under that down arrow so that I can choose to send the sound to the speakers connected to the laptop, like this:

P.S. I'm confused about the terminology for the laptop and PC when connected via Windows Remote Desktop. Would it be correct to refer to the PC I'm working from as the "remote" PC, and the laptop I'm accessing as the "host" laptop?

    :)

  2. Streaming/Remote desktop

    Hey!
I was wondering - is it possible to play games on my laptop through my desktop? Sometimes I really want to enjoy the power of a desktop, with the comfort of a laptop. In the same or just next to the room from where the desktop is located. Both machines would be connected with a D-Link DIR 825(300Mb/s), the laptop is capable enough (i3 & 740M). The only thing that came in my mind is using remote desktop, which would be almost OK, except it renders the PC useless for other users.

Any suggestions? *Smile Play music on laptop speakers via Windows Remote Desktop from PC :)

How to play audio/music through speakers AND bluetooth speakers

I have a pair of Creative T40 speakers plugged into the 3.5mm jack on my laptop. I got hold of a bluetooth speaker and that was recognised straight-away.

I have installed a large monitor (32inch) to the laptop on which I work as well as watch movies and play games. I was wondering if I could setup that audio, be it music, gaming audio or movie audio could be played through BOTH sets of speakers.

The main T40's are on either side of the monitor and I have the bluetooth speaker behind me on a shelf. That would, kind-of, give me surround sound. Or when I have people over I could get better sound if I could just move the bluetooth speaker to a different part of the room.

    Any ideas or suggestions?

    Thank you.

Laptop or Desktop for Music production?

My brother's BIL is into music composition and audition etc. He is looking to buy a new system (or build one). He was asking me if a Laptop will suffice for recording his compositions with good quality audio and video. He was looking to buy a i5 or i7 based Quad core + dedicated graphics powered laptop (with 8GB ram + 500GB Hdd). I suggested to build a Desktop powered with i5/i7 + dedicated grarphics and buy a real good $100 sound card and good headset. May be go little cheaper and build a AMD Quad/Hex based desktop.

Is a Laptop good enough or desktop is better?

If laptop suggest me few good ones. Looking for a mid-range priced ones (about $800).
