  1. Playing DVD on Windows 10 - 1803 update blocking DVD files

I used to play DVD films on Windows Media Player. Windows 10 is set to try and force us to use Film and TV instead of Windows Media player. I had successfully played DVD on the early versions of Windows 10

But since the 1803 update I am no longer able to play DVD films, including the films I have played before on this PC.
Putting the DVD in to the drive and closing the draw does not launch any program, or produce any Auto play prompt.

Windows Media Player says that the disc is empty. Films & TV can see the Audio and Video folders but says that the folders are empty.
Windows Explorer can see all the files on the disc.

I've downloaded and installed the latest K-lite codecs, downloading a full program version.

Don't understand why Microsoft is destroying all the good things that they'd achieved in the past, whilst forcing things on us like Films & TV and Photos - which despite Microsoft's claims, does not replace Windows Movie Maker, Media Player, etc.
And why is Photos so slow at loading photos?

    :)

  3. Windows DVD Player installed in Windows 10 but not recognizing DVD to play

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

The DVD Player app only supports the following:

    a. DVDs from a file backup is not supported, the app currently only plays DVD movies on optical discs.

    b. The App will only play DVD's not Blu-ray discs.

If you satisfy both the categories, I would suggest you follow the steps below and see if it helps:

Update DVD/CD-ROM drives from Device Manager.

    • Press Windows key + R key. Type "devmgmt.msc" and click Enter.

    • Expand the DVD/CD-ROM drives.

    • Double-click on the DVD/CD-ROM drive.

    • In Properties, go to Drivers Tab and click on Update.
If this does not work you might have to Uninstall and then reinstall your drivers in compatibility mode.

Follow the steps to uninstall and reinstall the driver.

    • Press Windows key + R key. Type "devmgmt.msc" and click Enter.

    • Expand the DVD/CD-ROM drives.

    • Double-click on the DVD/CD-ROM drive.

    • In Properties, go to Drivers Tab and click on Uninstall.

    • Reinstall your audio driver from Manufacturer's Website in Compatibility mode.

    • Restart your system
Hope this helps. Please respond if you have further related queries.

    • Did you try a different DVD?

    • Did you get any error messages?

    • Are you able to see the content of DVD on the file explorer?

    • What is the file format of the files inside the DVD?
