Windows 10: Playing sound for Oculus through HDMI

Hello all,

I am currently messing around with a setup in order to use my VR set in the living room rather than in my office.
I've got some wiring from my PC to my living room: 3x USB 3.0, 1x HDMI. The USB wires are directly connected to my Oculus devices (headset and sensors). The HDMI is connected to a HDMI matrix, which is then again connected to my Rift headset. I am currently able to play games this way.

However, I am not able to playout the sound to my headphones. The HDMI switch has an AUX output that plays the sound that is sent through the HDMI input. What I am hoping to do is somehow sending the oculus sounds through the HDMI wire it is using to send the video.

When I use a different input (like a Chromecast), I am able to playout the sound through the AUX output just fine. I am thus concluding that the sound from the Oculus Rift apps are not sent through the HDMI wire, but instead through the USB3.0 wire. I wish to change this. Is there any way I could make the Rift headset appear as a sound device so that I can select it in the options. There are already options for the Rift headset in the sound options, but when I choose them they are not causing the sound to play over HDMI.

Hdmi sound not working

One possible reason why the HDMI sound does not work is due to the conflicts with the playback settings. For us to help you make the HDMI sound to work, we suggest that you answer the following questions for further research:

• Have you made any recent changes to your computer?
• What is the current build and version of your Windows 10?
• Have you tried to download and install the most updated sound and display driver of your computer?

Meanwhile, we suggest that you perform the steps on this
article as our initial troubleshooting and see if there will be any changes on the HDMI sound.

Is it possible to play sound through headphones and HDMI output simultaneously?

Hi David,

I would like to inform that it is not possible to output sound through both the HDMI and the headphone jack simultaneously.

But you can watch video through HDMI and listen via headphone jack.

Follow the steps below.

• Right click on the speaker icon in the taskbar
• Left click playback devices
• Right click HDMI
• Select Disable.

no sound through hdmi to tv

Hi,

The HDMI might not be set as default. To set this as default please follow these steps:

• Go to Control Panel.
• Select Hardware and Sound.
• Choose Sound.
• Select Change system sounds.
• Click Playback.
• Then select the device.
• At the bottom, click Set Default.
• Click Apply and OK.

If the troubleshooting steps above did not work for you, try changing a different HDMI cable.
