Windows 10: PLDS DVD+-RW DU-8A5LH not recognized as writable on Win10 system Device type DVD/CD-ROM.

Went to burn files to DVD on my new system only to find that it looks at my DVD-RW drive as Standard CD-ROM.

My first inclination is to simply uninstall the device and let Win10 reinstall, hopefully with the correct driver.

But then I thought I should check in here first.

Any suggestions?

Win10 can't recongize PLDS DVD+-RW DH-16AES

I'm doing a big one for my brother, trying to get his DVD working after upgrading from Win Vista to Win10. His PC is currently using Build 15063, on Dell Inspiron 3847. Tried using Fix-it 314060 and 929461, which has not worked. Tried unplugging the DVD...rebooting...Plug
back in...rebooting, which did not work. I finally got windows to recognize as an un-working UNKNOWN device: Event details - Device SWD\WPDBUSENUM\_??_USBSTOR#Disk&Ven_Generic-&Prod_Multi-Card&Rev_1.00#20071114173400000&0#{53f56307-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b}
requires further installation. I've downloaded the latest firm ware update from Dell, but I wouldn't run because the system doesn't recognize that the DVD exist. Dell is no help. How can I get Windows to load the drives for PLDS DVD+-RW DH-16AES?

 

DVD not recognized with blank disk and no burn available


The DVDRW part indicates it can use both R and RW discs. But a Search on duckduckgo.com shows the first result as LDS [Mormon] video discs. Further checking shows the first letter of the model could be a P as in PLDS DVDRW DU8AESH. This page suggests it's only a CD-ROM:

Many times hardware issues with an ODD/Optical Disc Drive will cause only the CD-ROM [Read Only Memory] to work.

PLDS DVD+-RW DH-16AES does not work after upgrading to Windows 10

I have a Dell XPS 8700 desktop. The desktop originally came with Win8. I upgraded to Win10. After upgrading to Win10, the CD/DVD will open & close but Win10 does not recognize any discs.

The CD/DVD drive is PLDS DVD+-RW DH-16AES

I insert a disc and when I try to open the disc in Windows Explorer, I get the message 'insert a disc. Please insert a disc into drive D:'. I tried the disc on other laptop (Win10 OS too) and it works but it won't work on Win10 desktop.

From Device Manager, I upgraded driver and it says I have latest driver.

What else can I do?
