Windows 10: Please change the Windows File Explorer background default back to white like it was before...

We do not want to install a non-Microsoft supported application or hack the registry. We just want to change the File Explorer background back to white like it was before your latest Windows updates. White text on a dark grey background is more difficult to read than black text on a white background. That has been a known fact for decades.


Again, we do not want to install a non-Microsoft supported application or hack the registry. We just want to change the File Explorer background default back to white like it was before your latest Windows updates. Is it really that difficult to understand?


This is a serious plea for help. Please do not respond if you have written some special code or a hack of which you are particularly proud. We cannot risk trying it.

Like 10 but that white background!

Well, I don't use a tablet.
My PC is listed in specs.
The OP was expressing a dislike of a white explorer background.
Someone else posted it was necessary to edit the registry to make changes.
Still others suggested it is a good idea to use a shell replacement ?
And another thought recompiling the explorer.exe binary using an editor makes sense ?
What ?

Using high contrast, it is easy
and a simple few clicks to make all kinds of changes.

It is also easy and simple to switch from default non colorized theme
to high contrast mode. (one click)

Change File Explorer Background

Hi all,

I just recently upgraded my version of Windows 10 to 1809, where Microsoft introduced the dark theme for File Explorer. I'm gonna be honest, it looks terrible. I might be just not used to it, but I want it back to the white background. I'm aware I can change
the Default App Theme from Dark to Light, but that would change all my apps from dark to light, including Chrome or Settings, in which I prefer a black background.

How do I change JUST the File Explorer theme back to white? Is there a registry tweak or something that would enable me to select a theme for each app, or just specifically a different one for the File Explorer?

How is an option this simple not implemented? It definitely should be.
