Windows 10: Please dear God help me fix this sporadically disconnecting Ext. HDD

I'm a heavy gamer on PC using Windows 10, specs below for laptop and drive and have an external Toshiba hard drive that is less than a year old and works just fine 98% of the time.

The problem is, the hard drive disconnects 1-2 times a week, always while I'm knee deep in a video game. Recently, I lost over an hour of gameplay. It seems minor, but when it happens CONSISTENTLY EVERY FEW DAYS, it can be very aggravating.

I've tried a few "solutions" already - 1 connecting to different USB ports; 2 turning off USB Selective Suspend; and 3 Disabling "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"

I tried "Disabling USB Legacy Support in Bios" but when I clicked on the hard drive in Device Manager, there was no "Policy" tab in which to do this.

Any ideas?

Dear Dave,I have followed your instructions & the Ext HDD Isn't there at all.... (This is happening on this,my desktop computer,But when I plug the ext hdd into my Laptop computer,it IS recognised....) What do I do Now on my desktop computer??

computer stops recognizing 2 ext HDD

I use a 7 year old HP Pavillion desk top and so far it has worked well. I have USB connected 2 ext HDD. One is basic storage and the other is my ext backup HDD. If I try to open a file in either of them, my computer stops recognizing both the ext HDDs causing
a major problem creating backups. The only way to bring back recognition of the drives is to reboot. I plugged the two HDDs into another computer and they were fine there. How do I fix this?
