Windows 10: Please help! A Windows update causes static in my headset when I use it with a game...

Sometime last year I suddenly started hearing static in my headset...it was a Windows update. The only solution I could find was to uninstall the update.

I don't know if it's the same update from last year but an update finally slipped through, I have static and the update won't uninstall - I keep getting the 'not all of the updates uninstalled completely' error. I've tried using CMD, Powershell and DISM and they all fail to uninstall.

I've done everything to all of the drivers (HD audio, controller and headset) - uninstall/reinstall, update, disable, turn off enhancements, etc...

When I play the audio through the TV/Monitor there's no static.

When I connect the headset directly to the PC there's no static.

When I connect the headset to a controller, I get static.

If/when I uninstall the update the static goes away.

I've seen posts about this same issue going back a couple of years but I've never seen a solution.

Does anyone know how I can get my headsets to work with this Windows update?

Good surround sound headset

I know you say you're not that guy, but stepping into the $250+ range really brings a change in build quality that might have you never having to buy another set. Otherwise, getting 6 speakers with decent sound in a headset is hard, and that's what you are asking for, and I have no suggestions, but just a bump up the list. *Stick Out Tongue

 

My headset microphone outputs static/very muffled sound

In order to help you resolve issues with the microphone on headset, we suggest the you run the built in troubleshooter in you PC. Here are the steps:

• In the Search Box, type Troubleshoot and press
  Enter.
• Look for and select Recording Audio, and press Run the troubleshooter.
• Follow the onscreen instructions.
