Please help me get my network going again.

I am in Windows 10 Hell. Please help me. I bought a little Gateway Notepad that came with Windows 10. My original intention was just to install Linux on it for fun and learning. I've dabbled in Linux off and on over the years. I know that someday my old Windows 7 will give up the ghost permanently. But when it arrived I thought to myself, "Okay. It's already got Windows 10 on it so I might as well take a look at it." I knew from the get-go that my specs were the bare minimum to run Windows 10 so I wasn't exepecting any miracles. But holy cow! It was like the old days on a fricking dial-up and not much better just trying to open a file folder. So I thought, okay. Let me get rid of some of the bloat and then see how it goes. Since it was all pretty new to me, I used my Windows 7 laptop to research what I could do to improve performance. So I wasn't online that much in 10. Pretty much all I did online was get Windows Updates. I knew I wanted a different browser too. Probably Firefox. So I can't really say when I lost my Network connection but I'm pretty sure it was after the long list of post-install updates. My system Build had updated from version 1909 OS Build 18363.900 to 20H2 Bld 19042.1052 ("52" might be a mistake. My notes got pretty sloppy.) At this point I didn't realize that the update had caused any problems because as I said, I didn't go online with it that much anyway. If I got frustrated trying to get online, I just chalked it up to the minimal system specs and got on the Window 7 laptop to do what I needed to do. After using the Recovery USB, I've spent the last four days trying to fix it. But I can't. The Device Manager won't me try new drivers that I downloaded in Windows 7. (I'm not sure I've got the right ones anyway.) It insists that I've already got the best driver and keeps reinstalling it. I can't get authenticated. I can't install any 3rd party driver programs to find a better driver because I am stuck in S mode because I can't get online to change that either! If you can help, all I want to do now is get my Network fixed so I can install Linux on it. I have tried some of the Live CD's and the network connection with them also stopped after the update although at the time I just thought it was their distributions (or operator error on my part) and I could try some others. But the did work at first. My 76 year old brain is fried right now. If there is a way to fix it, I'm probably going to need very detailed step by step instructions... in small words, if possible. Thank you for your patience. I know my tale of woe was long. Here is the information on my notebook. ------------------------- My version right now: Windows 10 Home in S Mode Version 1909 (OS Build 18363.900) Computer Specifications: Processor: 7th Gen AMD A4-9120E APU with Radeon R3 Graphics (1.6GHz, Up to 2.4GHz, 1M Cache) Display: 11.6 LCD IPS Display, (1920 x 1080) Hard Drive: 64 GB eMMC Storage Micro SD: Micro SD Slot (Up to 512 GB) x 1 Speakers: Built-in Stereo Speakers x 2 Front Camera: 0.3MP Front-Facing Camera Battery Life: Up to 4 hours of battery life RAM Memory: 4 GB LPDDR4 RAM Ports: USB 2.0 x 1 USB 3.0 x 1 Microphone: Built-in Microphone Network Driver File Details: Realtek RTL8723B Wireless LAN 802.2 11n USB 2.0 Network Adapter Realtek Semi Conductor 3/22/2019 Version 1030.38.304.2019 Driver File Details C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\rtwlanu.sys C:\Windows\System32\wifibus.sys

  3. Help needed with simple wired network

Step one- Connect all PC's to router, and then the router to the modem. PC's go to router by the ports labeled "1-4" on the back of the router. WAN port goes to router. Power up all network equipment, and then systems.
Step two- Power on the computer connected to port one. Go into router settings at 192.168.0.1 and configure internet, dyndns, firewall, etc.
Step three- Go to "network set up wizard" in windows. (Network places- network set up wizard). The rest is self explanatory.
Step four- right click on each drive and printer you want to share, and then configure sharing preferences. Should be easy enough.
Step five- right click my computer, and the select "map network drive". Using the network address for each piece of hardware you shared, assign network drive letters.

Congratulations, you have a fully operational network. Happy Gaming! *Toast :toast:
