Thank you for reading my post. I have a PC running windows 10 with a wireless USB adapter for wifi (TP-Link). Since getting it over a year ago the wifi is constantly dropping or failing to connect. Troubleshooter either cites default gateway not available or can't find an issue at all. I've tried:

    1) changing adapters

    2) changing wifi completely

    3) moving house (unrelated)

    4) disabling the "allow the pc to turn off my adapter to power save" option

    5) downloaded software to update all the drivers on my pc and installed the latest driver

    6) changed wireless setting from b/g/n to b/g

    7) set a static IP address and DNS according to the ipconfig /all command on shell.

    8) uninstalling/reinstalling the adapter driver

    9) scouring the pc for any trace of McAfee

Resetting the adapter sometimes allows connection for a few minutes then it drops again.

I'm at my wits end- if anyone can offer some wisdom I'd be very grateful.

    Many thanks

  2. Help! WiFi Problem

    Hi Carmen,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I suggest you to refer to the Microsoft help article and check if it helps.

Computer that has VPN software installed can't detect wireless network after upgrading to Windows 10

If the issue still persists, I would suggest you to run the flushdns which will
force the computer to clear the DNS cache and check if helps:

    1. Press Windows key + r.

    2. Type ipconfig /flushdns

    3. Hit Enter

You can also follow the steps to reset Winsock. Then you can try release and renew IP address.

    • Press Windows + X and select command prompt(admin)

    • enter this command netsh winsock reset

    • restart the computer:
To release ip address and renew ip address you can try the following steps:

    • Press Windows + X and select command prompt(admin)
    • Enter this command ipconfig/ release thenhit Enter.

    • Enter this command to renew the ip address ipconfig / renew then hit Enter.
    Hope it helps.

Wifi and browser problems with windows 10

I'll tell you how I fixed an identical problem on a ASUS laptop that had run perfectly on Windows 7 and ran well on W10 from January until the Anniversary update in early August. I tried everything I found on this forum and two others. Nothing worked. The last thing someone suggested was disabling the adapter and using a WiFi dongle. Problem continued. Nobody suggested changing the wireless network adapter. I bought and installed an Intel 7260 WiFi card and just used the driver which was downloaded on the reboot after the install. All problems solved!!

I must have wasted two months reading and trying everything. Even the manufacturer support inferred I needed a new machine though they sent me a Windows 8.1 driver to try, with the same result.

I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer to determine if they white list any cards and see if they have suggestions for a compatible card. They may want you to buy another laptop but if the cards aren't white listed, a simple card swap to one compatible with Windows 10 seems to be the answer.
