Windows 10: Please how to delete onedrive and move the document folder BACK to it's original path

Hello, I tried to Unlink my PC from onedrive but then the document folder was still stuck in the onedrive folder. I tried to manually copy the folders from the onedrive document folder to the regular document folder but quickly realized that this is probably a huge mistake.Now I relinked back my PC to onedrive and please I want specific instructions on how to get rid of Onedrive and get the document folder back to it's place.I want to be able to click on the document folder shortcut in the left panel and go to my real document folder which is stuck inside onedrive. How to restore original Documents folder (not Onedrive's) if I had not enough space in onedrive?

It sounds like your Documents folder may have been synced to OneDrive at some point, and now your computer is configured to use the OneDrive version of the folder instead of the local version.

To restore the original Documents folder on your computer, you will need to unsync or unlink the Documents folder from OneDrive. Here are the steps to do this:

1. Open the OneDrive settings by right-clicking on the OneDrive icon in the system tray and selecting "Settings".
   
2. Go to the "Account" tab and click on "Unlink this PC".
   
3. Confirm that you want to unlink the PC from OneDrive.
   
4. After unlinking, OneDrive will ask you if you want to keep a copy of the files on your PC or remove them. Choose to keep a copy of the files on your PC.

I have now done the Location Move on the folders affected

One change has shown up. Previously even though a Folder location was changed the original folder remained, you suggested deleting it after removing it from the Library. In the past I have left it where it was to allow programs that refer to the Documents
folder via the UNC path to still have somewhere to drop files.

However after the move I found the Library now only had one path listed (in OneDrive) and it had been removed from the original location. So the result is as you suggested but I didn't have to do it.

I know there was an issue with build 1809 deleting files when it removed the folder (there were none in mine anyway) but this computer is build 1803.

 

OneDrive: How to reset default location for the "Documents" folder

Ok, that's a bit messy.

To play this safe, I would recommend that you go to OneDrive via web browser to download your files (which is the newer version, right?) and put them locally somewhere outside of OneDrive folder, so that no matter what we do with OneDrive, they will not be affected, for now.

Then I will suggest that you go to OneDrive settings, do steps 4 and 5 above.

Then sign back into OneDrive, at the step where it was asking you for the OneDrive folder path, set it back to the old path. Then perform step 4 again. The intention here is to return your shell folders (documents, desktop, pictures) back to local level and out of OneDrive.

If you want to continue using OneDrive, you can leave it at that, otherwise continue with unlink and uninstall.

Then you will have to manually sort through your files after that to decide what to keep.
