Windows 10: Please point me in the right direction to installing Windows 10 onto a USB Flash Drive....

For the last while I’ve been on-and-off trying to figure out how to install Windows 10 onto a USB Flash Drive. Do I need to have a Virtual Machine? That’s how I’ve been trying to do it. The tutorial(s) I see use VMWare and I don’t use VMWare, I use VirtualBox. VB is free and VMWare isn’t and my trial is long past expired.

Plus I’m kind of stupid so me seeing the titles of videos such as “How to Download and Install Windows 10 from USB Flash Drive Step-By-Step” makes me confused. It’s the word *FROM* that gets to me. Do I want to install FROM a USB? Is that the same thing from what I want? Honestly, I don’t know. I’m overwhelmed at all the tutorials and guides and not knowing if it’s FROM or TO and it’s making me wanna cry.

I do search TO USB Flash Drive and they always mention VMWare and/or WinToUSB or Rufus. I have both of these applications both on my host and guest machine, the question is is WHERE DO I USE IT? Do I do these things on my Host Mac or my VirtualBox Windows 10?

Can someone please point me in the right direction? Do I use Rufus, WinToUSB or neither? If I use a method that’s neither; will it work? Where do I use what on which machine?! AHHHHHH! HELP, PLEASE?!

Things I have:

Host Machine:
iMac OSX 10.10.13 High Sierra

Guest Machine:
Windows 10 20H2

USB Drive:

M Flash USB 2.0 64GB (Formatted MS-DOS Fat32)

Softwares:
Rufus (On host and guest)
WinToUSB (On host and guest)

VirtualBox

Bootcamp Windows Support Folder

Installing windows off of a USB stick

Step By Step from vista:
From admin cmd prompt

1. diskpart
1a. list disk
2. select disk 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

Copy Windows Vista's DVD ROM content to the Flash Drive

xcopy d:\*.* /s/e/f e:\ (d being your vista cd and e being your usb stick)

And that's it, boot off your usb disk

i have been installing Windows 7 Ultimate x86 OEM from my Kingston G2 8gb usb for over 6month now, and it's formattet as NTFS but you need to active the partition on the usb flash drive to get it to boot propperly and give it the barcode that the Windows 7 disc have.

i have use this guide several times but once the usb flash drive's partition is activated you never need to do that again.
