Windows 10: Please tell me there's a way to permanently turn off updates

This laptop of mine can't take updates anymore. It takes far too many hours for it, and I legitimately just missed class because, silly me, I thought allowing it to do the update while I was sleeping over the course of 6 hours, it would complete. It did not. I missed my class.

This laptop is on life support, and every update kills it. It takes literally an hour for the thing to reboot. I want updates turned off. It can't stand it anymore.

(PS: Never buy Dell laptops)

Is there any way to turn off Win10 updates PERMANENTLY?

I have taken several steps to attempt to permanently disable Win10 Updates.... but every attempt seems to fail.

To date I have

• told Windows I want to manually approve any updates.
• turned off windows updates.
• DELETED Win10 Update assistant (only to have it show back up again)
• DISABLED Win10 Upddates in Task scheduler. (Only to have it re-enable itself.)
  
• DELETED Win10 Updates in Task Scheduler. (Only to have it show back up again)

The only thing I haven't done is revert back to Win8 which seemed to be a far more stable OS.

Win10 keeps telling me that I need an 8g "security update" and that I need to free up space on my C: drive ..... something I am not willing to do. I have put up with this for the last 3 months.... is there really any way to PERMANENTLY disable / delete
/ say "NO!!!!!!!!!" to Win10 Updates?

There is a comment, (in the comments section) that states...

""You have to kill all permissions to wuauclt.exe and wuaueng.dll so the system can't launch Windows Update, EVER." This is the only 100% solution."

What are your thoughts on this solution to stopping Windows 10 updates..

Increase the window size step by step and watch your vga temps permanently.
What happens?
If it crashes, run at stock speeds as suggested before and retry.

P.S.: When your system locks, does the display signal turn off after a time?
Stuttering sound or no sound at all when freezing?
What X1800XT model do you own exactly?
