Windows 10: Please use a consistent system for the title bar colors

In the old days, title bars of active windows were colored, those of inactive windows were grayed/dimmed.

That all changed with Windows 8 and the metro apps, in 2012.


I thought there would be some transition period, but now, 8 years later, the confusion is even bigger, even if you limit yourself to Microsoft products:

- File Explorer: colored/dimmed title bars like in the old days which is, imho, the most obvious choice

- Settings metro style: dark/light, like the rest of the app, but no possibility to have a colored title bar for an active metro app window which is a pity - even if you choose 'Custom' color, you can't set the title bar color for active or inactive metro style windows

- Office: to make things worse, Office uses its own system Office Theme, also ignoring active and inactive windows however, offering you the possibility of Dark Gray / Black / White / Colorful. If I'm not mistaken, recently there was a build where, even in Dark Gray mode, you got a colored title bar every time another color!, but now it's gray, be the window active or inactive - which is a pity.


So, after 8 years, please return to some clear solution and make all title bars of active windows colored, those of inactive windows dimmed/grayed, or at least give users the possibility to set the system as such!

To change the title bar colors in Windows 10, you can use the built-in colors by changing the High Contrast Settings without editing the registry.

Here are the steps:

• Click Start, and then click Settings.
• Click Ease of Access, and then click High contrast.
• Choose a theme. You can also change the colors for the Text, Hyperlinks, Disabled Text, Selected Text, Button Text and Background on this option.
• Click Apply.
