Windows 10: PNG and .wav is not a supported file format

Discus and support PNG and .wav is not a supported file format in Windows 10 Network and Sharing to solve the problem; I'm trying to open PNG files from two CD based games from 2009-10, but they won't open, and show up on Photos as an unsupported file format.     PNG and .wav is not a supported file format


    I'm trying to open PNG files from two CD based games from 2009-10, but they won't open, and show up on Photos as an unsupported file format. I did check to see if they are real PNGs and they are not, they are data files. They are both made by the same developer, and both installations were normal. Also, all of the .wav files are unsupported, giving the 0xc00d36c4 error when trying to play. The files also won't work on other software, other than in the game for which they were made.Any way to make it so I can access them?

    Thank you for posting in the forum!



    Microsoft is aware of this issue. It has to to do with old type of wav files.

    The only option right now is to check with your provider and/or phone system and make a system wide change for the audio recording wav format.

    Original recording format = PCM MU-LAW (G.711)

    New recording format = Linear PCM

    Once you have done that it will work perfectly.

    I had our IT on campus change this and it works perfectly,

    wav file support in WP8

    Much to my disappointment, I discovered that wav files will not play in wp8. This worked fine in WP7. This is an issue since many phone systems use wav files to send you an email with voice messages. Looking at the wpcentral.com forum, I am not the
    only one with this issue and the need to have this supported for the reason above. I am posting this in the hope that someone at Microsoft is looking at these. How can a newer OS go back on supporting this very common file format
