Windows 10: Pointing device freezes momentarily on and off

Am running a brand new Dell PC with Windows 10, 64 bit preinstalled.


My previous was another Dell PC that was upgraded from Windows 7, 32 bit (I think) to Windows 10, 64 bit.


The pointing device moved with me from the old PC to the new one. A Wacom Intuos4 S Model PKT-440.


This device worked fine on the old PC. On the new PC it would freeze for a second as I moved it across the screen. There was no rhyme or reason to this freezing, nor was it specific to any program. It exhibited this annoying behavior even on an empty desktop.


I spent days on the Internet trying all the proposed solutions. Nothing worked so I began to experiment finding what seems to have overcome this issue.


Open: Control Panel | Mouse | Pointer Options |


Select: "Display Pointer Trails" then click: "Apply"


This alone seems to have solved the freezing. I found the trails annoying, so I went back to same place in Control Panel. Under: "Display Pointer Trails" then moved the slider all the way to the left toward "Slow."


Now the pointer works fine and the pointer trails are almost non-existent.

Try Uninstalling your device first, restart and then Install again.

Step 1:

• Open device manager by right clicking This PC and select Manage. On the left pane, click the same.
• Under Mouse and pointing devices, right click the synaptics driver and click Uninstall.

Step 2:

Restart when prompted. Remember, Restart!

Step 3:

Install the synaptics driver again using the setup utility provided by the manufacturer

That's what the auto setting will do since you're over the 1333 mark it jumps to the next step which isn't listed or officially supported I assume by that ram.

At this point though I would suggest dropping the multi one step or .5 so that we can get something stable and possibly take the heat issue out of the picture for now.

 

Mouse momentarily freezes since Windows 10 Creator edition was installed

Thank you for your response. When I select "Let me pick from a list of device on my computer" I get 2 options:

HID-Compliant device

HID-Compliant Mouse

I select "HID-Compliant Mouse" followed by the "Next" button.

The message "Windows has successfully updated your drivers" is displayed. I did not get a list of drivers to choose from.

This did not resolve the problem.

I have made a further observation as follows:

When the system is searching for drivers there is a green progress bar moves across the screen. This progress bar is also freezing at the same time that the mouse is freezing. Does this suggest that it is a display issue rather than a mouse issue?

I have also timed the freezing and it is occurring for about 1/2 a second every 2 seconds rather than that originally stated above.
