Windows 10: Popping, crackling, distorted audio on HDMI only.

I’ve been having this issue for quite a while now where when if I use any audio source other than my usb headphones the audio will crackle and pop and almost sound delayed/slowed. I have tried almost every forum response in hope of anything happening to which it does not therefore I have given up. Got a new tv 5 months later very excited to play games on it from the pc just to find out I will not have sound as the problem still persists, please help I’m going insane. Popping, crackling, distorted audio on HDMI only.

Hello all. Been at this problem for a few days now and running out of ideas.

Things were running fine until the last windows update, which ended up bricking my PC. The update hung halfway through the process. 4 hours later, I reset the PC. On start up, I immediately got the BSOD. I tried Sys Restore and a few other things to no avail. Eventually, I just realized it was time to do a fresh install.

After completing the install, I noticed audio through HDMI to my T.V was now popping and crackling. If I use a different audio source like headphones via Bluetooth, Audio is good. It is only when audio is played through my FX Card HDMI port that it becomes distorted.

Where?

Streaming: all browsers Chrome, Firefox, Edge

YouTube, Netflix, ect

Playing local music on programs like Win Media Player

Volume adjustment on task bar

So pretty much everywhere.

System running windows 10 home Ver: 22H2

Home built rig

CPU Ryzen 5 3600

MB first MSI B450 now Aorus B550 pro ac (will go into that below)

Corsair Vengeance ram 16gigx2

GeForce 1660 Super

TV Sony Brava kd55x75ch @60 refresh

Things I have tried.

All the basic remedies listed online including:

Adjusting sound quality

Adjusting power options

Using latest drivers

Removing and reinstalling drivers

Disabling all enhancements

Audio latency tests

Things I have tried not listed online:

New HDMI cord

Using a different HDMI slot on both FX card and T.V

Replacing the MB to Aorus B550 (Was going to do upgrade anyways as I needed more PCI slots)

Putting my old GeForce 1050ti in, uninstalling drivers and reinstalling drivers for 1050

Nothing has resolved the issue.

**Putting my GeForce 1660 S in an older computer and using HDMI to T.V** Works just fine, no popping or crackling at all.

Everything worked just fine before the new windows install which tells me I'm missing a driver or program.

Swapping hardware between 2 different PC's shows hardware, T.V, HDMI and HDMI ports are in good working order.

Past this point, I have no clue what else to look at.

I've included a YouTube link to hear the popping and crackling during volume adjustment. It sounds the same for any other type of audio played through HDMI.

Few questions.

Because this is a fresh install of windows, would there be any back up points for windows through system restore? The problem was noted immediately after the fresh install was completed and continued on through all the Windows updates.

I have tried updating Windows further, but it says I'm completely up to date.

Because the distorted audio is through HDMI via graphics card, I would think the only drivers are Nvidia? Which are not sounds driver specific. Audio plays just fine through any other output source like headphones or a Bluetooth receiver.

My Nvidia drivers also say I have the latest drivers available.

 

Audio Distortion, Popping and Crackling.

Hi after upgrading to Windows 10, I am having issues with my Audio.

Distortion, Popping and Crackling all present.

I have tried everything and I cannot get it to go away.

I have updated drivers, rolled back drivers and changed every setting I could but I cannot get it to work.

I installed a program to measure audio latency (LatenctyMon).

I am using the HP Spectre x360. On latest bios.

I have had similiar issues like this on my previous laptop, I must just have bad luck...

Anyway the drivers that I found to be causing the problems where Ndis.sys and TCPIP.sys which are both Microsoft drivers which is why I am here. I had a look into this and I believe these drivers were updated to version 6.5 with Win10.

Anyone know a fix for this?

On previous laptop there was an option to disable audio effects, on this the option is not present.
