Windows 10: portable drive letter changed - problems with iPhone

Without notice, one of my portable disk drives I use for back up had its assigned letter changed. And, that letter disappeared. I changed it to another letter and the backup program (SyncBack) works fine. But why would a drive letter get changed? And why would letters in the list disappear?




It may be related to my (#$!@#$) iPhone 6S. When I plug it into my desktop in order to upload photos, it causes my desktop to malfunction. I cannot open folders, none of them. I unplug the iPhone, restart, and plug it in again. This time I don't try to open the phone. I go to This PC and find the iPhone icon and open that. It works every time. Apple corp is not friendly with Windows. (Don't get me started with Outlook contacts and how the Apple software screws up badly.)

Drive Letter Portable Media Windows 10

Is there any way that I can get Windows 10 to assign a drive letter to my portable media device? I have several programs I use that appear to required a drive letter. Tried a couple of suggestions in posts, but wasn't successful.

 

Cannot change drive letter

• Press "Windows" + "R" on the keyboard.
• Type "diskmgmt.msc" and press Enter key.
• Now right click on the drive and select Change drive letter or path.
• Select the drive and click on Change.
• Now select the drive letter and click on OK.

Windows 10 changing USB port drive letters

I would like to inform you that the issue might have occurred due to some changes made to your computer.

I suggest you to try changing the drive letter of the drive and check if it helps.

Follow the steps to change the drive letter:

• Press Windows + X keys and click on Disk Management.
• Right click on the external drive and click on Change Drive letter and paths.
• Click on Change the button.
• Under Assign the following Drive letter, select the desired drive letter.
• Click Ok to save changes.
