Windows 10: portable ssd not alowwing to update new version of windows

wwhen i got this ssd it took me awhile to find out how to get windows on it it is portable i thought it was because i needed odler version of windows 10 to work but i found out after i got old windows 10 on here that u dont and i wanna get new version of windows so i can run everything i need like fortnite and other things but when i try updating this shows up HOW TO FIX? the update assistant doesnt work and i dont wanna clean the drive cuz than i would have to install everything i have again and i dont wanna do that so cansomeone help

• Update&security -> Windows update -> Finding update... .... .... ....

Planning to download the latest Win10.ISO (vers.1803) and manually update:
- Then wait that my ordered new SSD arrives and clone the old HDD to it.

I appreciate your effort on this. However, to help you with the appropriate troubleshooting steps, please reply with the following details:

• What is the make and model of your computer?
  
• Which build version of Windows is installed on the computer? To check type:
  winver in the search bar on the Taskbar and hit Enter.
  

Method 1: Updating Storage drivers



It could be an issue with the drivers that is why the SSD is not getting detected after a restart. We can try updating the drivers and see if that helps. Please follow the steps mentioned below to update the drivers:

1. Press Windows key + X, to open Context menu.
   
2. Click on Device Manager.
   
3. Expand Disk drives.
   
4. Right click on the driver and select Update driver.
   
5. If prompted for restart, please restart the PC.
   

You can also go ahead and check for Storage drivers from the computer manufacturer’s website. If there are storage drivers available, please download and install them.



Method 2: Updating firmware for the SSD



This issue could occur if the latest firmware for the SSD is not installed. You can download latest firmware from the SSD manufacturer website and install it.



For update issue, I would suggest you to please refer the troubleshooting steps in the article

Fix Windows Update errors and see if that helps in resolving the issue.



Note: The above article has the steps to perform a clean install of Windows.
You may take a backup of the data before performing a clean installation.

Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.
