Windows 10: Possible BUG? -- How to remove Keyboard Layouts in the latest Windows 10 update?

Good day.


I just noticed today that there are keyboard layouts that I did not install/setup. I've been going in circles with the Windows 10 settings and the Keyboard Layouts I want to remove are nowhere to be found. How can I remove these unwanted Keyboard Layouts?


Here are the Keyboard Layouts I want to remove:

1. EN English India --> see Screenshot #1

2. OL Other Language --> see Screenshot #1

3. ENG English India --> see Screenshot #2

4. QAA Unknown Locale qaa-Latn --> see Screenshot #2


I took screenshots of all the settings and areas I can find related to Language and Keyboard Layout screenshots #3 and the rest.

As you can see from the screenshots of the settings, I only have three 3 Keyboard Layouts.

1. EN English Philippines -- Philippines Unicode Keyboard Layout with ₱eso sign and other important Unicode characters not available in the obsolete ASCII-based US Keyboard Layouts

2. FP Filipino Philippines -- Baybatin-Tagalog Unicode Keyboard Layout

3. HE Hebrew Israel -- Phoenician/Paleo-Hebrew Unicode Keyboard Layout


Yet, Windows 10 is showing other keyboard layouts that I can find where and how to remove. It's not in the traditional Control Panel > Uninstall Programs nor in Microsoft Store.


I want these unwanted Keyboard Layouts removed because it is messing up the keyboard layout cycle when I am typing.


Last but definitely not the least, how do you remove that Windows 10 taskbar "three-letter" language code? The original Language Bar two-letter language code is far better in detecting and displaying Keyboard Layouts as can be seen in the screenshots above.

Cannot remove Keyboard Layout

Hi,

It is possible that you need to configure your keyboard layout that is why you still see it in the list even you already remove it. To address your issue, we suggest that you follow the steps on this

thread provided by DikkeryDok last October 27, 2017 to remove the specific keyboard layout you are referring to.

keyboard layout bug?

I have the same issue here. I have done all the steps above and after a reboot the keyboard layouts are installed by windows automatically. This 99,99% a bug and needs a solution.

There are 2 new workarounds that I justfound that I will try:

1. To fix this issue, delete the Preload registry folder and restart (or sign out) the computer:

This folder seems to be some legacy remnant that contains non-user-specified keyboard layouts to be added to the list of languages when the user signs in. While the fix itself works through restarts, there's a few things that seem to bring back this folder:

• Remote desktop to a computer with US layout
• Win 10 Anniversary update
• Logging with Microsoft account on another PC that still has this issue

Whenever the problem comes back, that registry folder needs to be deleted again.

Edit: I have created a RemovePreload.reg text file with the following content, this way this fix can easily be re-applied every time without navigating the registry:

To use this, save it in a text file and change the extension from .txt to
.reg. Then whenever it comes back, you can just double click it and restart or sign out.

2. Remove unneeded language files from Windows like KBDUS.DLL or others located at:

C:\Windows\System32

The above issue might occur due to the following reasons:

• Country & Region settings not enabling you to delete the keyboard language set on the PC.
• Not choosing appropriate default keyboard layout.

Before we assist you further, I would like to ask you a few questions:

• Did you try removing the keyboard layouts from Settings page?
• If yes, does the issue persists even after removing the keyboard layout?

By removing the Keyboard layout from system Settings page, the language will be removed from the PC. However, if needed, you can download the same from system
Settings page and check if the changes made are effective.



You can remove the keyboard layout either from system Settings page or
Control panel. Follow either of the steps below to remove the keyboard layout and check if the issue is resolved.



Step 1: System Settings window.

• Press Windows logo + I keys on the keyboard to open
  Settings page.
• Click on Time & language from the options and select
  Region & language from the left side panel of the window.
• Click on the keyboard language you want to remove under Languages and click on
  Remove.
• Close the window and check if the changes are effective.

Step 2: Control panel.

• Press Windows logo + X keys on the keyboard and click on
  Control panel from the context menu.
• Click on View by option located at the top right corner of the window and select
  Large icons from the dropdown bar.
• From the panel, click on Language.
• Under Change your language preferences click on the keyboard layout to remove and click on the
  Remove button which will now be available to use.
• Close the window and check if the changes are effective.
