Possible sign of infection from windows power utility output powercfg

Intro: Hi, let me start by saying I'm a cybersecurity major, and I've found something quite odd and nerve wracking on my main Windows 10 Education machine. I'm very sorry that this post is so long, I know that this is not an effective way to get help, but I also want to leave a detailed description in the event this is a major issue. I have tried to make this easily digestible.I would only be mildly surprised if I were to learn that what I'm describing is the result of completely normal Windows operation. But without any more detailed information, and without the knowledge of how to obtain mor

  2. powercfg /sleepstudy and /systempowerreport

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.

    1. Did you make any changes to the PC prior to this issue?
    2. Is the PC up to date with all updates?

However, let us try these steps to check if that helps or makes any difference.

Step 1: Suggest you to run the power troubleshooter on the PC. Follow these steps:

    • Press Windows key + X and click on Control Panel.
    • Double click on troubleshooting and click on view all.
    • Click power and click next to run the power troubleshooter.
    • Follow the on-screen directions to complete the process. Once it is done, close all windows and restart the computer.
Step 2: Further, suggest you to run the
    SFC scan utility tool
on the PC to check if that helps with this issue. System File Checker is a utility in Windows10
that checks for system file corruption.

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

Let us know if you got the help you needed by clicking 'Yes' or 'No'.

  3. probldems with power

    Hi,

Your concern about your laptop turning off completely when placed on sleep mode may indicate a possible improper power plan configuration. As an initial step to rule out any power settings issues, we suggest that you reset the settings to default. To do
    this, follow the steps below:

    • Type cmd in the search box.
    • Right clickCommand Prompt from the list, and select
      Run as administrator.
    • Type or copy and paste the command below:

      powercfg -restoredefaultschemes
    • Wait for the command to finish and restart the device if prompted.

Once you're done, check if the issue persists.

    powercfg /sleepstudy and /systempowerreport

Powercfg option /sleepstudy generates System Power Report, and /systempowerreport output filename is wrong.

    command: powercfg /sleepstudy

description: Generates a diagnostic system power
    transition report.

    output: sleepstudy-report.html

    report title: System Power Report

    command: powercfg /systempowerreport

    description: Generates a diagnostic
    system power transition report.

    output: sleepstudy-report.html

    report title: System Power Report
