Windows 10: Possible to move windows to d drive?

I'm reinstalling windows soon and I'd like to know if its possible to have windows on the D drive or any other drive apart from C. The goal I'm trying to achieve is to have windows kept separate from everything else so for example I can install games and programs to my C drive and keep windows on its own drive that is used for nothing else. The reason is that I find the windows drive usually gets cluttered with junk that becomes hard to find and remove and over time I lose more and more space to unnecessary garbage that is not practical to manually remove. So basically windows on one drive but programs, games, and all else on a different drive. Now I know I can just put windows on C and use D for everything else but I find many programs default to installing files in the C drive, sometimes I can change this and other times I cant and i don't want this to be something I have to give consideration to. Windows version number will be whichever happens to be the latest version when I reinstall....

• Type-in the following command:
  
  attrib -h -r -s /s /d D:\*.*
• Press Enter to execute the command.

If you think that there is nothing important stored in it, then we suggest that you reformat your D drive so that you can use the free space for important files.

You can follow the steps below to start with the process:

• Click on the File Explorer.
• Select This PC.
• Right-click on your D drive, then click on Format.
• Follow the on-screen process to finish formatting the partition.

  Is the D: drive located on the same hard disk or on different hard disk?
  
• 
  Did you have any important data saved on the
  D: drive?
  

If the D: is saved on another hard disk and you are unable to access it, I suggest you to format the drive completely and check if the issue is resolved.



To format the hard disk, follow the steps below:

• 
  Press Windows logo + X keys on the keyboard and select
  Disk management option.
  
• 
  Right click on the D: drive and select
  Format option.
  
• 
  Wait for the formatting to complete and check if the changes are effective.
