    Possible to re-assign monitor identities/numbers?

In the Customize Display Screen like shown in post number 6. Click and drag the big box 1 to the other side of 2 and let it go. Then click on Identify. It will show which identity your TV is assigned to and which identity your Monitor is assigned to. Click on the big square that is the same as the identity your monitor is assigned to, when that is highlighted make sure "Make this my main display is checked." Click apply if you have to.

  3. The monitor numbers do not matter. You can't change them. You want them to physically match your actual placement but other than that it makes no difference as to how *Start + P reacts.
Humor me will you and try this. Go to Settings > System > Display. You should see your monitor layout and the screen numbers. Click the one that is not the TV so its selected. Now look down at the bottom and see if the "Make this my main display" is greyed out. If its not, check mark the box and click apply. Now press *Start + P and select PC only. It should be the only screen active now. Select secondary only and your TV should be the only one active. If that's what you want leave it that way. Now select Extend and they should both be on. If that's not what you want select the TV and put a checkmark in the box for Make this my main display. Now PC only will be the TV and secondary only will be the other screen.

This will not change which screen shows the BIOS Boot screen or the Windows Boot screen or logon screen. Just because that shows on the other monitor doesn't mean your main display changed on the reboot. Once you log in it will be the way you last left it. Mine always shows on the monitor number 2 in the screen shoot I posted earlier. The one numbered 1 is set as my main screen.

  4. Possible to re-assign monitor identities/numbers?

I'm literally baffled at your response. Of course my main displayed is marked as my main display..

My screens function perfectly as I stated in my first post, its the fact that my television is always identified as #1 despite being the secondary screen. Did you read the link I posted?

  5. I've read somewhere else this might be the case but I cannot find the thread at the moment.

I'm assuming on Nvidia cards that the HDMI is always (0) as you refer to it as my tv has been labelled #1 since very first time I started using dual monitors years back.

If this the case I could solve the problem using a HDMI/DVI adaptor but then I'd lose the sound signal to my tv which is a no go.

  6. You never said anything about it being ID'd as no 1 in your first post? You said, "No matter what I do Windows always labels my secondary TV screen as my PC screen and vice versa." What does it matter what number it has? Being labeled as No 1 doesn't necessarily mean its the "PC Screen". As I've been trying to tell you, what monitor is set as the Main display is what becomes the PC Screen. The 1 just means its connected to port 1 as far as the video card is concerned. Set the other monitor as Main Display and *Start + P will treat your TV as an external display. problem solved.

  7. People like you are why problems like this are never fixed. You think you have the answers to everything when you clearly don't..

    I'll leave it at that.

  8. Possible to re-assign monitor identities/numbers?

If you want the number to be different from what it is, you are going to have to plug your TV into a different port on the Video card. Wouldn't it just be a lot easier to switch which one is set as the Main display though?

  9. OK, refresh me will you what is that actual problem? Why does it matter that the TV is shown as monitor 1? And what issue that you can't solve does it create? I honestly want to help? I just don't see why your fixated on it being labeled as Monitor no 1.

  10. What you are saying DOESN'T change the fact the in the Win+P menu the secondary display is always in fact the main PC monitor (Yes it's been ticked as the main display in display properties) and the Main PC is my television (tick box for main display empty)

I could change the ports theoretically but there is only one HDMI on my GPU and even on my previous GPU that had multiple HDMI the problem was exactly the same.

  11. Well the problem is you don't understand and clearly don't want to so you should of just not bothered responding the first place. I've said from the very beginning its not a functionality problem but an aesthetic one. I linked you to another thread where the 'problem' was addressed clearer but you don't seem to have acknowledged that..

  12. Ok I see the EDIT, and the link added to the first post, didn't see it until just now though. Following that link shows this post.

This has nothing to do with which is marked as my main display. Yes, my Acer is marked as my primary display in the Screen Resolution control panel, and it even remains the primary when my TV is hooked up, but that doesn't stop Windows from identifying the Acer as monitor #2. Declaring which monitor is your primary doesn't affect the numbered identity.

Isn't that what I've been saying?

  13. Possible to re-assign monitor identities/numbers?

The link was posted on the second page but you ignored it, I edited into the first post after to make things clearer.

If that's all you got from the link then something must be wrong with your browser..

  14. You kept going on about it being the "main/PC display". And I've been telling you, just because its labeled as 1 doesn't mean its the main PC display. Any display can be the Main PC Display. If you had stated from the very beginning that all you want to do is change the number this could have all been avoided. Plug it into a different Port and its number will change.

What is the source of your information on this ("which port is zero (0) on the GPU that is going to be the main monitor"). Is this just the way you think it should be or can you provide a reference to what this is documented?
