Windows 10: Possible Upgrade from windows 7 to 10.

I have a windows 7 OEM on my machine.
I am looking to maybe install to windows 10 before the 29th.
Firstly I will be making a full backup of windows 7.

I understand, if I install, upgrade to windows 10, I can revert back to windows 7 within 30 days.
After that there is the option to go back to windows 10 at a later time. My interest is gaming and using directx 12 when games eventually require it.
Is my understanding correct?

If there is a problem with the upgrade to windows 10 like the computer becoming unusable, what are my options for keeping my windows 7 licence.
In that situation I will put the windows 7 image back on the computer as it works.
What are my options in that situation?

I would like to provide you with the information that there is no free upgrade path from Windows 7 Enterprise to Windows 10 pro. So it will be very difficult to say whether it is a good idea or not.

If you have an image backup, you can revert to old OS at any time and more reliable than rollback.

 

Yes that is likely true. What is important is if the windows 10 upgrade /revert process fails, will I have a valid windows 7 licence.

 

Yes. Once you upgrade for free to Windows 10 before July 29th (then it isn't free anymore), then on that same computer you can switch back and forth between Windows 7 and Windows 10 as many times as you like. Your Windows 7 product key stays valid for the Windows 7 install/activation and Windows 10 gets a digital license stored on Microsoft activation server for it's activation. You just can't legally run both Windows 7 and Windows 10 at the same time (dual boot) without purchasing an additional license because you still have only one license for Windows, not two.
