Windows 10: Power source problem between laptop and second monitor

I have a ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th gen laptop running Windows 10. I connected it to a new HP z27 monitor via USB-C cable (laptop's charging USB-C to monitor's data and Power Delivery USB-C) so that it's the 2nd monitor and the power source for the laptop.

Every 3 to 25 minutes, both displays power cycle, and Windows 10 makes a sound that is similar to notifying of changing from plug-in power to battery or vice versa. It's very annoying because the OS briefly switches to single display and then back to dual display, and this messes up the location of some of my windows. Every. Eight. Minutes.

I checked the Windows Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System, and indeed, every time this happens, there are two logs for Event 105, Kernel-Power, "Power source change". The time between each pair of logs is 2 to 3 seconds.

The time interval between each of these events does not match any of my power settings for sleep or hibernate or the screen saver.

How can I stop these spurious power source changes from happening?

Second monitor connected to DVI on laptop will not power up

I recently bought 2 new windows 10 laptops (one dell, one HP) and am having problems on both when using second monitor.

This monitor worked fine on my old laptop with windows 7, the monitor went on and off with computer power and sleep.

With windows 10 the monitor power behavior is unpredictable, but mostly will come on for a few seconds, then go off, windows makes the 'device connect' the 'device disconnect' sounds. I have the same problem with both the laptops. It takes several frustrating
attempts to get the second monitor to stay powered up and connected. This has to be done every time the laptops wake.

Help, Please. I have checked drivers (up to date) and power settings (always on).

 

Windows won't boot up when unplug laptop power source

The problem is that, if i didn't unplug the power source from the laptop(ie : i just leave it connected to the power source) the laptop can boot just fine. The problem happens when i unplug the power source, and plug in back with the power source, the laptop
will go black screen after the acer logo

• Does the monitor on the laptop work if you disconnect the other monitor?
• Is the second monitor connected to the laptop using a DVI, HDMI, or DisplayPort cable?

While waiting for your feedback, we suggest that you disconnect the second monitor from the laptop and check if its own monitor is working. If not, restart the laptop and check again.
