  1. power surge: win10 seems corrupted cannot boot or restore

Booted win10x64 recovery disk, tried startup repair, repair failed. Tried several restore points all reported restore failed.

From advanced command prompt sfc/scannow reported "verification %100 complete" but then reports "windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation".

If I let it reboot the microsoft "window" with the 4 panes show up in the middle of a black screen and nothing happens. I looked at the CMOS and all settings seem OK.

When I first ran the startup repair it found a few things wrong with the disk and fix them but ended up reporting that it could not solve the problem and it suggested the advanced tools. Subsequent runs do not find anything wrong with disk and go directly to "Attempting Repairs" which report failure.

Looks like I need to reinstall. This older (non UEFI) system is registered at Microsoft "10 professional" with digital license and I can easily reactivate. Any suggestion on avoiding full install?

    Thanks for looking.

    :)

  2. power surge: win10 seems corrupted cannot boot or restore

I was ultimately unable to boot into windows. Memory check (mem86) and disk check (hd sentinel) showed no problem. I deleted all the partitions and took the opportunity to select AHCI in bios instead of IDE to correct my original mistake over a year ago.
10 pro is going in as I am typing.

This system was actually on battery backup when the electrical surge hit. I was watching a movie stored on my NAT and possibly the surge came in through the amplifier or tv or ethernet cabling as only the computer was plugged into battery backup. All 8
of the surge protector relays in the garage panel tripped. The non-surge circuit breakers did not trip.

Probably too many people mining for crypto currency here in texas at the same time as the heat wave.

power surge: win10 seems corrupted cannot boot or restore

Power surge now Ethernet connection says no IP address

    Hello,

As the power surge is a dangerous happening that will surely affect your device as well as the Ethernet, here are the steps we suggest that you do in order to be connected to the internet again:

    • Run the Network troubleshooter followed by networking commands.
    • Update the network adapter driver.
    • If that doesn't work, roll back the network adapter driver.
    • Temporarily turn off firewalls.
    • Temporarily turn off any antivirus or malware-prevention software.
    • Uninstall the network adapter driver and restart.
    • Use network reset to reinstall network devices. Note that this step is the last option if the first six steps doesn't really work.

For instructions regarding the above steps, you may refer to this link.

Let us know how it goes.
