    Hi all,

I wanted to see if any of you have a way to manually enforce showing an application in the Windows Taskbar area? We recently rolled out a new VPN solution and I want to turn the VPN icon ON so it's always visible in the taskbar.

I cannot seem to find a way to manually flag that for an app AND have the ability to push this same setting out to all my machines ~ 150.

    Your brainpower is greatly apprecaited!!!

    System Icons on taskbar

    Hi,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Communities.

Are you referring to the clock system icon on the taskbar?

If so, I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below:

    • Click on the search bar on the taskbar.

    • Type system icons.

    • Under Turn System Icons ON or OFF, turn On the Clock and check with the issue.

    Hope it helps.

Photoshop icon is not showing on taskbar

Hi again and sorry that the previous troubleshooting didn't work as intended.

I found some alternatives that aren't harmful to your system to execute and could be of good use. As referred from

    https://www.iseepassword.com/icons-not-showing-...
    :

Step 1. Click on the "Windows" key and type "Powershell".

Step 2. Right-click on the Powershell option in the output list and click on "Run as administrator" option from the drop-down menu to launch it with admin privileges.

Step 3. Now copy-paste the following command in the blue Powershell dialogue box:

    Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

The process will take some time to execute the output successfully.

Step 4. After the command line has been executed, trace the following location: C:/Users/name/AppData/Local/ Replace the "name" with your user account name and make sure that your hidden files showing feature is enabled.

Step 5. Now scroll down the list of options and find out the file named "TileDataLayer" and simply delete the folder.

Now, move back to the system home screen and check if the icons have re-appeared or not on the taskbar.

Powershell/GPO/registry trick to manually choose which icons to show in taskbar?

Problem with appliing Registry GPO's for Windows 10 PC's

Some of my GPO rules stopped working and I do not know why. I tried to google solution but without success.

I have some Workstations/PCs with Windows 10 in one subdomain and I need to manage them via this registry rules.

The problem is, that the my GPO rules are updating some items in registry in
    HKCU
tree and it doesn't want to create items in HKCU.

But it looks, that the GPO's with registry items for HKLM tree still working. I made a little test. I created a GPO with new registry item for
HKLM tree in registry, this one was created.

This is list of some HKCU registry items in which I need to create:

For sure I made same config for "User Configuration" and also "Computer Configuration" (I know, it's not necessary).

    Description for each registry item:

    • Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MultitaskingView\AllUpView\Enabled=0 - Remove Task View Button from Context Menu and Taskbar
    • EnableDesktopModeAutoInvoke - Turn On Automatically Show Touch Keyboard when No Keyboard Attached.
    • HidePeopleBar - Disable People Bar on Taskbar.
    • ShowTaskViewButton - Hide Task View Button on Taskbar.
    • TaskbarGlomLevel - Never Combine Taskbar Buttons (Change Buttons on Main Taskbar).
    • MMTaskbarGlomLevel - Never Combine Taskbar Buttons (Change Buttons on Other Taskbars).
    • TipbandDesiredVisibility - Show Touch Keyboard Button on Taskbar.

On the Workstation I made "gpupdate /force /sync".

After reboot I made "gpresult /h c:\result.html" and there I found info, that the my GPO (Win_StartMenu_and_TaskBar) was applied. But, I expanded all records in result.html and there was no other info about what from my GPO was applied.

For sure I opened Regedit.exe on Workstation and there was nothing changed.

I made screen of some non changed registry items:

I tested it one two different PC's with same HW and SW.

Workstations and GPO rule are in the same OU. Workstaion user has a right to read GPO.

Please, have someone idea how fix this problem with apply change in HKCU Registry via GPO?
