Windows 10: Pre-generate image thumbnails for remotely stored photos

I have gotten kind of tired of running my own server for file storage and want to move it to a non Microsoft/Google/Amazon/Apple encrypted storage solution located outside the EU and US.

The only thing stopping me at the moment is the large amount of photos my girlfriend has. She really needs the generated thumbnails that Windows10 displays in Windows Explorer when editing photos.

When we host the photos on remote storage, it takes a very long time for the thumbnails to be generated and loaded.

So here is my question:

Does anybody know of a tool, preferably a command line tool, that allows you to generated these thumbnails in advance if they do not exists yet?

I would basically like to scan folders for missing thumbnails and generate them when missing.

If you do the suggestion by Cyberdesigner and they still show as icons, check your performance settings and make sure "show thumbnails instead of icons" is checked.


Right click Start, select System -> Advanced system settings -> Advanced tab -> Performance - Settings

 

Can't see Thumbnails in photos -- just the Windows Icon

Hi suggest you eliminate Onedrive from the equation and use or put a photo/image file in a folder not synched by Onedrive.

Then check settings here:

Thumbnails not able to generate

Hello everyone ,

I have a Lumia 520.Recently I deleted the photos stored inside the WPSystem >SharedMetaFiles something and then inside that arts and thumbnails folder.I deleted files present in both these folders i.e arts and thumbnails respectively to create space.But
now i have a big problem that my phone is unable to generate the thumbnails and I cant view the images in my Photos hub.I also tried formatting once with FAT32 but that did not work.Thanks in advance.
